Sorry to use the H word, but going to have a look at one this week. Never driven or even been in one before, but all the reports I've seen, heard and talked about seem to come back with glowing reports about them handling wise and performance wise (200 bhp) It's a 30th Anniversary model (EP3 model, 53 reg) in black, one owner from new with about 70k on the clock. Thoughts?

They are an awesome car, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Out of the various N/A hot hatches you'll find on track, 306's, 206's, Clio's, etc, the EP3 is the one that always stands out as noticeably quicker. Many say the steering is crap although i didn't think so at all, just not as direct as a 306 perhaps. K20 engine is awesome and will yield another 30bhp without too much trouble. The EP3 is a little bit softer than the earlier type R cars such as the EK9 or the DC2 integra, and the UK model doesn't have the LSD, doesn't really matter though. People often moan about the lack of torque, its mainly just talk from people who've never driven one. Whilst it's true that there are engines with more, the amount they have is more than enough, more than a 306 gti6 and many other cars in the class. Check for damage and signs of neglect. Honda's often rust, and these are ragged for a pass time so might have ended up in a shunt. Don't pay over the odds unless mint, some people seem to have a warped view of what anything Vtec is worth and put up silly asking prices.

Happy buying Smile

I like Pugs purely because they are slightly quirky. EP3's are everywhere! Love the Vtec engines though, very capable. Usually a good chassis to suit them too. A friend has a B18 EK civic and puts in some seriously quick times around Castle Combe.

Although not as good, I'd be more likely to grab a Corolla or Celica T sport and give it a few mods.

You've to dare to be different, I looked at civics & you had to spend serious money for a mediocre one, I went the tsport route & it scares the s**t out of people because they don't know anything about itNinja

Cool

I had one for about three months and sold it. Great fun engine but as far as a drivers car goes, I didn't rate it much. Yes the steering is awful and that was my main issue with it, also make sure you give the brakes a good try as the calipers tend to seize up. Also mine had the most annoying exhaust rattle on it that I could never get rid of despite replacing the cat converter twice, it usually happens on lift off and others have had the same issue.
