Okay, this is not a 306 specific question, more general.

How can I find out whether a gearbox would fit (have the same ratios, fitments etc) my Peugeot?

Basically the gearbox in my 407 Coupe 2.2S is making a noise, and I was wondering whether the box from a regular 2.2 saloon would be the same!? I believe the box itself is similar, but I am not sure about the ratios...

Is there a way this check this somehow?

Thanks,

Tibi

Okay, I was thinking about that but what should I actually check there? As there is an ML something number there for mine.

Should I just try and find a 2.2 saloon VIN and check whether the gearbox code on service box is the same or not?

I guess so.
Does the 406 coupe 2.2 petrol run the same gearbox too? Plenty of those kicking about...they were ML boxes, different from the V6. Yours is a 6 speed though I take it?

You about on Sunday? Congrats by the way Big grin

I think there was only one version of box for the ew12, have a browse on servicebox, youll find out easy enough.

not common though, and usually pretty strong especially with only a 2.2 petrol on it.

It is strong no argue about that, but I believe mine has a few bad bearings as if I hold the throttle or accelerate it makes a noise, but once I release the accelerator and it goes into engine brake phase the noise disappears.. Dunno

And also sometimes it's very hard to engage 2nd and 3rd gear but sometimes it's silk smooth Unsure

Yes but that still does not answer the whining sound coming from the box... and that is not clutch related as the sound changes at acceleration/engine brake
