Doesn't it run the old turbo engine from the Cooper S?

Heard BMW dropped that engine from the range due to issues with those. Not the most reliable unit by all accounts....

nope, its totally different to the supercharged engine.

its a bmw/psa co-developed prince engine, only reason the new mini doesn't use one is because its got so fat it uses a 2.0 variant.

it has a chain not a belt but yes early ones were troublesome but there have been many tech updates and replacement parts in the timing gear.

Honestly speaking, a chain driven engine very rarely, if at all, needs a change of chain. As long as the oil is changed regularly (as its the oil that lubricates them I believe) then you are mostly all good. Occasional story of a chain stretching etc but that's about it.

If its had a chain replacement, I can't see it needing another one. As Mei says, been a load of upgrades etc to sort it. I'd check if its had them, and then how much a chain replacement is.......I've a feeling that's going to be quite expensive....

Have to ask, if you've been reading a lot of duff reviews, why do you want one?

Had my heart set on one, then found this thread on piston heads where people were saying about the engine. Seems 50/50 some people rate them others seem to keep going on about the engines it's seems to be the bottom pulley at fault not the chain. Cheers for the help guys

A friend had one and had some expensive chain issues. Nice car though.

I've been more than tempted to get one on a few occasions.
