Selling on behalf a friend.

My old 306 2.0 HDI

Its the more desirable 3 door variant. Basically a GTI 6 with the 2.0 HDI engine. Extremely rare to find a 3 door in cherry red.

I owned the car for a year about a year ago, totally reliable and returned at least 50MPG.

I then sold it to a mate about 9 months ago as an inbetween car and he had no probles with it whatsoever and he's just sold it another mate last month.

Prior to him selling it it had a new MOT.

Unfortunately my new mate hasn't had much luck with it. The clutch went about 2 weeks after he had it, so he's had a new clutch put on and new selector bushes.

About a week after this he broke down on the motorway. The RAC man has confirmed it is the high pressure fuel pump. He does big mileage and was royally (and understandably) f*cked off with it so has now gone and bought a much newer Audi A4.

It was a fantastic car for me and the first mate I sold it too and I'd say with the fuel pump sorted it will go on to be a fantastic car for the new owner.

Cosmetically its great for a 16 year old. No rust just a few age related marks but still very red.

Interior hasn't fared too well the GTI-6 seats have worn through since my ownership and are looking a bit shabby.

Good points are its just had an MOT and has a brand new clutch, two front tyres and was last serviced just before its MOT.

Cambelt was changed at around 75k but it was in 2011 so will want doing again really (I think the belt comes off to fit the high pressure pump anyway)

We don't know what its worth to be honest, it definitely would be a hell of a shame to scrap it.

If you're interested get in touch by PM and i'll pass on Matt's details. He hasn't given me a price just said he'll listen to offers.

Be aware it won't start due to the pump issue so obviously test drives aren't a possibility and it will need to be towed away.

Few photo's from when I had it - the outside is still in excellent condition but the inside has worn a fair bit since.

I think HP fuel pump failure is pretty rare. Not one to suggest the roadside services have misdiagnosed, but the only fault mine ever had in moon mileage from the engine was the LP pump. This made it not start, HP pressure faults normally make it limp.

Can you hear the pump prime?

I've had two high pressure pumps s**t themselves and have heard it happen plenty of times, they tend to eat themselves.

Haven't a clue I suggested Matt double check it wasn't the LP pump and apparently that is working as fuel comes through the lines to the fuel filter.

He told me it did limp and it was intermittent and now he's got it home it won't start.

The AA man know doubt knows more than me and my mate.

Not as common for the HP pumps to fail as the LP ones which are common as fook but I've had a few fail at high mileage had one last year that would always start but cut out as soon as you boot it. Had done 170k and never really been looked after and was remapped. Pump could t produce enough rail pressure to keep up so it was forever cutting out.

Not necessarily the HP pump that's failed if it won't start. Needs minimum rail pressure to start but if rail sensor is buggered or suction controll valve in pump then it won't be reading enough pressure for te ecu to want to fire the injectors....

If it was closer I'd give him a couple of hundred quid for It and fix it but bit far for me....
