got quite a clunk coming from the rear beam at slow cornering speeds <5mph and when reversing off my drive which has a funny camber.

Had a search and not much to go on.
Only thing that really cropped up was rear arb

There is no squeaking, camber or play on the back axle/arms so hoping the bearings are not the cause

How difficult is it to pull the rear arb? Going to goto pug tomorrow and order some seals up for it and will look more into it at the weekend.

And ideas/info appreciated

Cheers

you'll need to order more than seals if it has zero history of any attention, it'll need bearings and shafts as a minimum.

there's a Polish company does shafts and o.e. brand bearings on ebay for a very good price.

It has been done before its in the s/h if I remember correctly.
Just wanting to check the arb at the mo.

Going to pickup a s/h beam to rebuild in due time so it has a totally fresh unit on it.

Just want to find out what this clunk is all about for now

I had this on mine, the enterance to my old driveway had an angled camber on it.
Every time I drove into the drive I got a clunk from the rear end. Bearings and shafts where shot, outer bearings were non existent.

Do you get creaking noises when you push the back end down? Check that it comes back up nicely.

Yeah just odds and sods.
Aye I'm going to do it myself so will save some £££. The one that's on can carry on knocking until this ones built. It arrived today so I'll get cracked on in the next few weeks. Can't fault the engine on the car it seems spot on. Just typical pig suspension that's the main problem. Replaced front wishbones with rich w rollers the p bushes were dead in the old ones. Could do with a fuel swirl pot which will be the next job as the p1 tanks aren't baffled apparently and ones it gets below half it starving it whilst accelerating hard. It's a good car just a few niggles and me been me won't be happy until it's sorted!

So came round to pulling the arb today. Well what a total nightmare that's turned out to be. Someone's previously ripped the thread out of the end plate. So the bolt method is a no go. Slide hammer wouldn't budge the bar from the other side. Heat, more wd40 that you can imagine and I've given up for tonight. Going to try the B.F.O hammer tomorrow and see how I go with that.

Well finally got the b**ch out. One knackered arb and a trailing arm left in the tube. Will leave that for tomorrow to sort!

I'd give up with that tube tbh and get a donor one, use your arms and torsion bars.
