Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help me. Currently I am driving a Peugeot 407 Coupe and I always do everything on my cars. Last week I replaced the two lower balljoints and whilst doing it somehow I managed to create a small hole on the CV boot Crazy

I have glued it up but I doubt it will hold for a long time...

My only problem is that replacing the boot is someting I can't do, as without the tool which can expand the special boot to slide onto joint I would have to remove the whole thing.

So now I would like to look around to see whether there is a recommended garage in my area where I could take my car. Someone who will not fcuk it up, and also don't want it to cost an arm and leg...

If you know about a good garage in the Coventry area (I actually live in Nuneaton) please let me know. I am also willing to travel a bit for the right mechanic.

Thanks,

Tibi

By time you get it done it might have ran dry and knackered the shaft.

This is really a very small hole the amount of grease which came out after a 150 mile jounrey was marginal. Some people would not even bother with it but I am not one of those...

It doesn't take long for every bit of grease to come out of a tiny hole with the centrifugal force

Haha this is strange!

I'm currently based in Coventry and replaced my balljoints a year ago, and about 2 weeks ago I realised I must have a tiny hole in my passenger side CV boot as there's grease all over the shop.

I can't hear any unusual knocking noises but will replace the shaft shortly.

On the garage side of things, I can't recommend anywhere in the immediate area but have had dealings with Carl (mechanical_repairs on here) and he's a good bloke. I doubt it would be much to get it done anywhere to be honest, it's a simple job at the end of the day.

You'll know when it's knacker'd as it will feel like you've got square wheels

If you can replace bottom ball joints tou can replace a driveshaft gaitor im sure. I have a cone which i bought for about 6 quid from my local factors. Stretchy boot plus oil cone equals easy job. The only hard part is getting the clips on and nipped correctly which really you want a set of pliers for but even those arent expensive. Can get a pair on ebay for 5 quid ish

quite hard to feck up a cv boot, stretchy ones are horrible though, just get the proper ones, outers tend to be thermoplastic on the larger outer joints on pugs, inners are rubber.
