Lowering my 6 down off the jack last night and there was an almighty crunch and the entire jacking point as folded over No

This is coupled with an awful clattering noise when going over any minor bump....its really metallic like something literally rattling around loose, and clonks when i brake when the car is rolling backwards.

The car was going so well but 3 trackdays seems to have taken its toll, first question - how terminal are buggered jacking points and secondly any suggestions what the hell this metallic rattle and clonk could be?

Cheers

where did you jack it?
On the sill or further in on that chassis but that runs across front of floor/bulkhead?

On the sill, well the thin bit that comes down from the sill (where the traditional V shape jack goes around it) - I couldnt get the trolly jack under the chassis rail it was too low - i've seen many tyre garages etc do it without issue so figured it would be the same, clearly not Sad

should be ok, as longas the jack rolls on the floor ok and the car isnt rusty.

put some pics up, I thought you ment you'd squashed in the chassis/bulkhead/floor bit, as that's quite common it seems, it's all fixable, even better if your a competent welder eg

Its all squashed under there, its had 10 owners, id say 8 of them didnt give a crap, loads of the sections are flattened etc but that had nothing to do with me i may add!

@Welshpug - the jack didnt roll, i think that is probably why it collapsed Sad

What happened? It rolled off the jack or the sill caved in?

it was i'd say 50% of the way down (i always lower it insanely slowly just in case), there was a huge crunching sound and it all just came down rather quickly from then on!

Based on the marks on the drive i'm guessing the jack wasnt rolling, more grinding across and could be why its all folded/collapsed

I'm not a special case i assure you!

Pictures would be good. If it's just the bit of the sill that sticks down that has folded over, I think you can just get it rewelded and it'll be fine.

Not sure on the clunking thing. Has it been doing it for a while? Any particular change that could have caused it?

apologies, this is a crap pic but you can see how the 2 pieces have effectively split and bent over:

This is the other side which is manky but ok (you can see the state of all the legs from previous owners)

As for the clunking, only thing that's happened recently is the removal of the ac rad and pipework and fittment of the oil cooler - i've been over it all and cant find anything that would make that kind of noise.

its the clunk when abruptly braking to stationary whilst moving backwards that makes me nervous as it is clearly something related to the way the wheels etc are attached :S

Nope although only because that has already had the 'fix' by the previous owner

The top engine mount on one of my cars fell to bits, the chassis was fine but where the stud goes into the body it had all cracked (no signs of rust on it either). That made some funky noises when on the loud pedal around 4k rpm. Might be worth having a look at it. Dunno

Wow, lots of idiots have had a go at that. Front jacking point part of the centre sill "stiffener" which is the centre one of the 3 layers of sheet metal, the other two being the floorpan and the outer sill.
