Think that's a fair representation of most engine builders in my experience! I'd be interested to know what power the engine made though!

sandy could tell you that, he took the head apart and did his best with what remained, new head and difft cam I think, made more torque and power.

ime its not representative whatsoever of any decent engine builder.

ive got one of seans old cams, pts gp a gravel cam.

I remember seans old red 205 mi16, featured in retro cars mag some 12-13 years ago, should have stuck to tgat car eith hindsight!

I guess representations of engine builders is very much dependant on experience, of which mine has been totally s**t.

Lol, not this s**t again! Razz

Qep had their enemies as well, there were/is far far worse 'engine builders' around though, myself and Pete_rallye can vouch for the incompetence of a certain one......

that wasn't in the slightest bit cryptic.. LOL

dealt with QEP loads in the past, always helpful and seemed to know their stuff. when did they stop trading? i've not bought anything from them for years to be fair, i bet it must be 2007/2008 when i was going round in circles looking for s16/mi16 bits

everything i've ever seen about that Dave Baker or from him posting online just seems arrogant and "not got time for this s**t, i'm best" sort of attitude but maybe it's just engine builders in general putting up with customers giving them sub-standard bits to piece together to make their expectation of a good build, yet on a budget?

So in the end it didn't make the power he wanted out of it after all that?

if i'm right, it looks that he have double standards, after all those claims in his articles in RIP pumaracing website, about power stages with exact numbers.

I wouldn't be giving someone 2.2k to do anything without a fully written out and defined contract.

As soon as it is breached they're having none of my heard-earned money!

Poor Dave spent more time sending emails than building an engine! Its no suprise he gave up with the engine builds when having to constantly deal with peeps like this sean character. Seems like joe bloggs public has worn him down over the years, who can blame him. Put yourself in Dave's shoes, not many would. I bet even fitting a set of brake pads would have turned into a shambles with customers like sean! Smile

Looks like it started off as a straight forward job tho. Seemed to escalate by being given crap stuff to turn into a good build. You cant polish a turd so to speak.

if someone gave me 2 engines that were both scrap, to make a good motor from, id have started to get a bit p**sed off also.

All you have to do is say "sorry these ones are scrap" and give them back or chuck them if the customer agrees. In the contract have it written out that the customer pays for stripping and checking of supplied engines. If you can't be courteous when someone is giving you over 2 grand then don't start a business making bespoke products to customers' specifications. You've been paid for your time stripping them so what's the problem?

Passing all of the mistakes of an assistant on to the customer is also unacceptable.
