Have been using some cheap threaded bars instead of wheel bolts on a track 306 as it makes swapping wheels much easier and quicker. However last outing found that one bar had bent slightly and was loose within the threaded hole, basically it has knackered the hub thread. Looks like it must have developed some play which has then eventually resulted in the failure.

Now I know if you buy cheap you buy twice and all that, but wondered if anyone was using threaded bars on a race/track car which is having regular wheel changes and whether you could recommend a quality set. Or would I be better to steer clear of threaded bars and stick to traditional wheel bolts, however will need some longer ones as also using 20mm spacers.

Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated.

What are you using, threaded bar, or wheel studs? There's a big difference between a piece of cut down threaded bar and proper wheel studs!

I use wheel studs. Obviously far quicker and easier for wheel swaps. And I've never had a problem in all the time I've used them. And the car takes a lot of stick bouncing around everywhere. And the wheels are off regularly.

Please do not drive your car again with threaded bar for wheel studs. Threaded bar is very soft material and isn't meant for this. Not even sure it's as much as 4.8 grade.

Buy proper wheel studs. Rally design ones are under a quid each.

threaded bar or "allthread" is not high tensile steel, so I'm not surprised youre having issues.

look at some of the French rally parts guys like pam sport or similar, avoid the greystone engineering ones

peugeot and citroen sport do quite a few different lengths but none likely to be long enough for a spacer, they are frowned upon in competition use..

They are a proper set of wheel stud conversion kit, same as eBay item number 370553005452.

Thanks for the replies will look to source some from a Motorsport supplier.
