Hi all, thought I'd share my new project. A K20 engined 3dr 309 in fast road spec.

I purchased a 47k 1 owner 1.3 style 2 weeks ago.

Collected from Essex

In the workshop. H ERO number plate!

Short time later

Beast of an interior. Although very tidy!

Lowered the beam

60k (genuine) engine purchased from a 2005 CTR premium.

Getting it ready

Running gear removed

Engine arrived today

Engine stripped down to what I want to work with. Some bits will be re fitted. Ie water pump.

Slid under

Took about 2 hours this evening getting the height, angle etc correct

Took a section out of the inner wing for the gearbox mount.

Updates to follow.

This morning, got into work and had a rummage for some bushes and dad came up with some Landrover defender suspension bushes...

Going to use two in parallel for the gearbox mount.

Required a small trim down so they would fit width wise and so the inners will butt up together.

Trimmed, left one sat the other way round to show before and after.

    As they will sit

Plenty of space here still. I will get some pipe that can be welded to the chassis and these bushes will get pressed into them.

This is going to be epic Thumbs up
Just a shame it's a jap engine, would be so much better with a French engine like a 2l turbo from the megane Devil but I can imagine that would be a lot more work

I'm a N/A engine man to be honest. This engine is arguably one of the best 4 cylinder production engines ever built and it should make a lovely drivable fast road old school pug.

Even though it'll be a budget build it's not a cheap build. I'm hoping to complete it for around 5k. So far it owes me £2,000. The expensive bit next is the DTA S60, loom and bodies. But that'll be in the new year

Front lower engine mount now done.

Used some 25 x 3 angle to strengthen the front end, welded the corners into the chassis legs and stitched it across the lower slam panel, ran a bead of panel sealent across the edges to stop and water getting inside and rusting inside out wards and stuck some pink oxide over it all

Cut around the chassis leg to add strength

    Trial fitment with engine in.

Engine removed, paint ground back, welded, sealed and painted in oxide

    Offside engine mount cut out

On the near side added 25mm angle on the leg and backed upto 25mm angle on the wing. Massive amount of strength added here now. I hate welding to thin body work, prefer 3mm and above.

Still a fair amount before it's finished here but it's a start. Engine back in next to tac in the mounts...

    More progress today...

Cut out the lip on the engine mount which revealed a flimsy section!

Added strength with an angle section. I also added one on the backside on the wing, didn't take a pic of that though.

    Mounts added

I've changed my mind on the gearbox mount, I've decided to use one larger mount, I used the original civic mount to mock up what I'm after. This isn't what I will be using, I will be something similar but on a smaller scale. A fairly simple setup.

It will be similar In shape. I just knocked that up to work out the design of what I want. It looks ugly but it's got my head around what I need to do here.
