Hi all

Went to use the rear wiper today, and it worked and then suddenly stopped and the wiper has remained almost vertical in the centre of the rear window.

Too dark and late to check at the moment, but from memory on owning 306s before, am I right that the blue wiper relay is known to cause issues? Hoping it is just a case of replacing this if so.

Cheers

Yeah I did think that. I suppose just check the relay to see if it is corroded (as I know this is common) and if not then I suppose it's the motor? As I say it worked and then stopped. I don't mind it not working as don't often use it, but it's annoying having the wiper sat in the middle of the window!

Get the tailgate panel off and get fiddling with a multimeter. Check the plug contacts too. Mine stopped working and luckily that was all it was.

Right I got a chance to have a look over this at the weekend.

Took off the relay, and took it apart to inspect it, seemed ok to look at and had no water ingress.

Put it back on and still wasn't working. But I noticed each time I looked at the rear wiper it had moved ever so slightly.

If I ever so slightly plug the relay in (not fully, but literally just offering it up slightly) then the wiper does move ever so slowly, and I could then move the wiper with my hand freely and you could hear the motor working, so I moved it to its normal off position and it stopped there. However, I noticed that when holding the relay like this (so it is not all in) the boot light flickers on and off, and the top brake light would come on and off. When I then pushed the relay all the way in, the boot light goes off completely. And then there was a constant buzzing noise. If I touched the relay, that was vibrating, so I didn't know if this is a sign that the relay is knackered or if it is the motor that is knackered and sending vibrations which I could feel when touching the relay? If that makes any sense?

Anyway, the wiper is in the normal position for now and I have just left the relay unplugged.

MOT is due soon thinking about it. Is it MOT requirement for rear wiper to work? If not I will just leave the relay off for now.

    nope.

if the relay was doing crazy s**t like that to the brake lights I would imagine its damaged wiring near the hinges, not wise to leave it tbh.

tailgate loom plugs into rear end loom behind the o/s trim so easy enough to pull out and test or repair as needed.

I seem to remember when looking that the wiring at the top right hand corner near top of tailgate was wrapped in black tape, suggesting someone has been at that before. Guessing it could be something to do with this?

Might have to get someone else to look at it then as I'm s**te with electrics and wiring. And o/s trim? Which trim is that?

    Managed to sort this today.

Upon having a look, it was just a wire that had broken near the top right hinge on the boot.

Rear wiper working perfect now, and high level brake light also now working which wasn't before.

    Cheers
