I'm planning a suspension refresh over the next few months. I'm thinking of going for B4 dampers with new, standard springs. I've called my local dealership and parts are difficult to get hold of sometimes but will keep trying for prices on genuine items, both springs and dampers, although I already know the dampers are more expensive than B4s. I imagine the springs are also not cheap.

Are aftermarket standard spec. springs any good?
For example KYB?

Sachs?

I don't want to buy cheap and then have to buy twice, but at the same time I don't really want significantly stiffer, lowered aftermarket springs that then don't match the rear etc.

probably not standard ones LOL

Try a better dealer tbh, they are not marked NFP at all so should be available. they were used on the phase1 partner so were quite widely used.

They'll be about £150 a pair btw, probably why most opt for the £90 a pair eibach's or some second hand Xsara springs.

Yeah that's what I thought! Big grin

I keep ringing them up on my lunch break but it must just be when their parts guy goes for lunch. He is a helpful guy though.

I'd be happy to buy aftermarket std. spec if they are actually good, I just don't want something that will be a crap ride and/or break. I am wary of buying stiffer springs as I don't really want to change the balance of the car front/rear hence not going for eibachs etc. I was thinking that Sachs products are normally held in high regard but I've no clue whether or not this is true for springs.

I have Sachs ones on my 6 with standard shocks, as when I bought it both front springs had snapped. They've done about 4k since fitting and I can't complain at all, but also can't compare to a 6 on OE suspension - the only other 6 I've been in is on coilovers (which may as well be steel girders, they're that stiff!).

I bought genuine pug springs about 5 or 6 years ago, i seem to remember them being circa £60 per spring back then.

They're still going strong as you'd expect. Thumbs up

Thanks everyone, didn't realise eibachs were progressive so will have a think about them.
Will also keep trying for a price for genuine items. Smile

I got a set of OE standard springs from a dealer almost 2 years ago. There will be a set sitting on a shelf somewhere in the UK.

It is a question of finding someone who actually wants to help you. When trying to find a headlight stalk at short notice 140 miles from home I rang around a whole lot of people and the attitude varied hugely. One bloke flat refused to send one he had on the shelf, he said pick up only even though I offered to pay carriage. At the other end of the scale, a dealer helped me find the last remaining sill seal which was at another dealer elsewhere in the country (they have global visibility and can see who has the parts - if they can be bothered to look).

If you need a helpful parts bloke, call Paul Marshall at Fish Brothers Swindon. I got the entire front suspension of my car from him.

Warners in Tewkesbury are very helpful too, and I have seen them post stuff, Lookers in Cardiff are good as well, though they don't post.

Warners Cheltenham and Gloucester are pretty useless unless you actually give them a part number and request specifically that they order it.

I've used Warners in Tewkesbury for having things delivered in the past.
As said, my local(ish) dealers have a nice, helpful parts guy, he just always seems to be on his lunch at the same time as me. Laugh my ass off

Thanks guys.

I believe the global visibility is only the case if they are a Peugeot UK owned dealership, and not a franchise. For example, my local dealer will be able to order in a part from Peugeot or within their franchise group within the UK (as in move the parts around that they 'stock', but they can't tell me if there are any in a dealership in Athens for example, or outside their group.

Robins and Day for example would be able to as they have that visibility.

That's how I understand it anyway from what my helpful dealer has said, as he genuinely wants to do all he can.

I'm pretty sure I have seen KW V2 Innox coilovers for sale on here for £350 recently. A car was being stripped I think. Would highly recommend them as was tempted to buy them to replace my V1's which are frankly awesome
