I'm going to change the condenser in my car. As i have to replace my radiator i thought i might as well do this too and get the A/C working.

I was hoping to have the radiator out today and see for myself if i could change the condenser without removing the bumper, but due to my ability to make a crisis out of a drama.....i still haven't got the radiator out.

Can anyone confirm if i need bumper off to change the condenser. Just so i can plan what i need to do tomorrow and what bits i need.

Thanks in advance.

To change the radiator you either need to pull the bumper & slam panel forwards or take it off, and the condenser is in front of the bumper so I'd say the same for that!

There is a guide on removing the bumper in the FAQs.

You can change the radiator by removing the inlet manifold but then you're just messing with more important components and increasing the chance that something won't work.

Inlet is far easier to take off than the bumper and front panel, never had any issues taking them off, bumpers and slam panel however are littered with seized rusty bolts and screws.

You need a gasket for the manifold if you are removing it.

I believe you may have to separate the rubber hose from the metal pipe with a special tool. On the left hand side when you follow the plumbing. That may be only required if you changed a different pipe rather than the condenser - I'm unsure.

I don't want to remove the manifold. Not at this stage.

I've bought the tool to remove the spring clips. I'm changing the pipes too. Or rather that is the plan!! Smile

Okay cheers Luke. May just take bumper and slam panel off as less likely do damage critical parts Smile

I'd suggest you take the slam panel off with the bumper attached. There's a risk of the fixing spinning within the bumper when removing the bumper from the slam panel.

Cheers radiator out now. What a mess.

Condenser next. I just removed the two 13mm bolts and pulled it forward. Couldn't get the hose from middle detached in situ so pulled out and removed while on engine bay. Will be replacing with jubilee clips that screw as easier to work with.

Think I might just do all the front handling bits once I figure out what I need while the car is in bits. Will get shocks kit for whole car once car back on road.
