Can anyone tell me, the flywheel end crankshaft oil seal what is the correct depth for that to be set into the block when fitting?

Should be flush with the edge of the block, the touring cars ran a big alloy o-ring behind it which was clamped in place so the seal couldn't move. Never heard of it moving anyway but guess they must have had a problem at some point to do it.
