Hi Folks. Oddest thing happened yesterday...

Just shifting the cars around the drive, while reversing car stalled and when I tried to restart there was no life from starter at all.

Now,
Battery in good order
fuel pump primes
inertia switch reset
Under dash fuses all intact

When turning key to start. the dash lights are on but the clock goes out while the key is turned.
I cannot for the life of me think why it would not even engage the starter..

Now, a dud battery would usually either crank the car in a really sluggish fashion or, if really flat, would dim/extinguish the dash lights when cranking so I'm confident I can rule that out. Its odd how it was running/starting fine and then after a stall, wasn't having any of it!!!

How would the immobiliser react if, for example, I removed the chip in the key fob??

Any ideas???? Would connecting to PP possibly flag up something??

BTW, So glad forum is back up!!!Thumbs up Thumbs up

I'm no expert but in your shoes I'd probably be putting power direct to the starter - with the key in/near the ignition so that the immobiliser is overridden. If it cranks then but doesn't kick to life, I'd check fuel/spark and see if the immobiliser is the culprit.

I'd then break it for parts if I couldn't work it out.

Starters do just do that sometimes, some click etc but others can just completely die. It could also be the actual ignition barrel, It's happened to me in the past.

First thing I'd do is See if the car bump starts, assuming it will try dans suggestion and power the starter manually, if it works then get a voltage tester on the barrel and see if that's working.

Make sure it is off a petrol or diesel with a be gearbox and it should fit fine.

The 1.4 and 1.6 tu engines use an ma gearbox and they won't fit but any other should be fine

Check the battery is connected properly first then as mentioned bridge the lives on the starter to check if that's the culprit.

Yes Mark, replaced starter and all is good. Still have an annoying random cut-out which is another issue entirely.....Sad
