Some twat just reversed into me at traffic lights and cracked my front bumper. They admitted liability by asking if we could deal with this outside of insurance companies and have asked me to get a quote for the repairs. My fear is that my car could be written off if the cost of a new bumper plus paint plus labour etc ends up being hundreds of pounds. What does everyone think?....get the quote and go back to her or just hand all the details to my insurance company?

technically you should inform them regardless, whether you decide to pursue it or not, wont take long to give her a quote though

Get the quote and go back, you could even get a second hand bumper if the costs are that high she can't pay it, tell the insurance company f**k all unless you really must

yeah, i even have a spare bumper lying here, in the wrong colour fair enough, but I could always get that painted up. Just wondering if I should give her a chance at paying in cash and if she says no or gets smart then I can go to insurance company.

Check VERY carefully that no metal is bent behind the bumper.

Yep, the slam panel is very prone to damage on even minor front impacts, and the headlight mounting brackets get damaged easily too.

Get an MOT garage to check your headlight alignment. If it's out then the slam panel is bent.

If this goes to insurance they'll say you drove into them and you'll both get stiffed.

Regardless of what people say, get a couple of quotes and let them know.

No No if she decides to say he drove into the back of her it could well swing in her favour!
insurance company's nearly always swing in the favour of the person that was driven into the back off,..

unless the reverse lights were broken in the collision and the insurance company can proove they were on when they were broken!

just get a quote for painting your bumper check the slam panel and those lights bonet etc! and hope she doesn't stiff you!

Do you know, that's exactly what i was thinking on my way home this afternoon. If she tells her insurance company I drove into the back of her whilst she was sitting at traffic lights, I think they'd believe her story more....I probably would as well if it wasn't for the fact that she feckin well reversed into me!! It was the usual female answer of "oh, I didn't see you"......no dear, you probably wouldn't have unless you used any one of your three feckin mirrors!!!!!! Angry

She was at the stop line at traffic lights, it was a one way street with two lanes and I think she realised she was in the wrong lane, stuck it into reverse to get into the other lane and hit me....despite me sounding my horn.

Mate don't involve the insurance companies ever. For anything. If she seems reasonable and the car checks out that's it's only cosmetic damage just bill her with a quote from a professional place and get it sorted yourself cheaper. Net a little profit for the inconvenience and everyone's happy.

Or just sell the whole thing to me ;-)

I had a bloke pull this stunt on me ...he reversed into the N/S rear of me ....that was 21months ago ...lucky for me I took loads of photos.....took over 9 months to sort & in the bloody end knock for knock ....loads of paperwork & hassle .!!!!!....
Please ....Don't involve the insurance company unless you have to .....learned my lesson the hard way Thumbs down
Only saving grace was We were both to blame with the help of my photos Thumbs up
Could of ended up being 100% my fault ?.....

if it's china blue you're gonna struggle like mad getting respraying involved, i've had the same aggro over an 18 month period and in the end i got a 2nd hand decent nick from bumper and panels because the respray was noticeable in certain light (due to being pearlescent paint)

mine was when an uninsured and unlicensed council taxi driver smashed into me in 2010. lovely chap

No, it was the black rallye that got hit. Ironically, I have a full set of spare panels and bumpers in perfect condition for the china 6 therefore I'd need to sacrifice the front bumper from my spares supply and get it painted black. TBH, the rallye front bumper has seen better days and so I'd like to get it replaced anyway, I was just oping that since she cracked it and made it worse that it could all be covered with the one fix.

Take your spare bumper to a body shop, get a quote and give her a ring?

I reported it the day it happened but never confirmed whether I wanted to make a claim or not.
