When getting jiggy with a spray can what should i stay clear of giving a lick of paint?

Are there any downsides to painting parts that could become very hot? i.e. you reduce the cooling capabilities

Just clean it, paint always flakes off eventually.

Paint the engine bay, and the block itself if its iron, but anything alloy should just be cleaned.

if you prep surface right and use heat resistant paint it'll look ok. when it flakes off it'l look crap. i've painted my bare block using black hammerite brush on, and i've painted my cam covers in a heat resistant silver. my head is painted heat resistant red. no problems as of yet

coilpack cover is carbon fibre, gearbox has been done silver, it was mainly for keeping it tidy when it was apart if i'm honest. engine bay etc painted black Whistle a lot has been powdercoated too

Cool, thanks. I plan on cleaning what i can but some things will be wanting a lick of paint id say Yes If it's prepared right and the right paint is used im sure it would last quite a long time. Like with any painting though i guess it's not a do once and forget thing, as you say over time it will flake and need redoing.

Just wondering about painting up things like the alternator and throttlebody if i cant get them super clean...

Same as ash on mine. Used hammerite black on the block but the silver I used aluminium paint. Been on 5 month now with no problems of pealing off. Doesnt look that nice now with all the engine work whats been going on but a good clean should bring it back up nice.
