I'm posting this more to confirm the symptoms I'm getting and the cure to help people in the future searching.

I came to my car the other day and randomly it wouldn't start. I thought the battery was flat because the central locking wasn't working but it turned over just fine without firing. Oddly the odometer was totally blank and the clock was flashing all funny characters.

Turns out Fuse 6 (phase 3) had popped.

Cure, unplug the alarm siren that I've never heard anyway. To get to it I turned the wheel all the way to the left and took a look at the wheel arch liner. There are two allen (poss torx) screws at the bottom but mine were rusted completely so I had to pry the plastic with a screwdriver to loosen the bottom. With those loose I managed to force the liner towards the drivers side where it meets the front of the passenger wing. Bending the plastic I managed to get a hand in to unclip the siren. New fuse and all is well again!

No idea how this is happening but I need to get a new alarm siren now. Anyone any ideas on that?

Hope this helps someone in the future.

It happens because the units aren't particularly well sealed and succumb to water ingress eventually, thus causing a short and popping the fuse.

I believe some saxo/106 units may be compatible, they are situated above and behind the left hand wheel behind the wheelarch liner so do seem to fare a little better than the 306 did.

the siren, the control unit is matched to your ecu and the keys.

i dont belive the ph2 alarm is linked to the ecu/keys
as the alarm box is only armed and disarmed with two wires which comes from the seperate rcl box under the rear bench

the rcl box is matched to the keys

this is refering to the IR system not the RF system Wink

I was referring to phase 3 indeed given the OP's car is a phaase3 as mentioned, and they're all RF.

Phase 1&2 there's a transponder chip for the separate transponder unit, which is matched to the ecu, the ir sensor matches to the Plip which triggers the CL unit which separately triggers the alarm.

funny how a single fuse can disable the while lot LOL
