Well fitted my coilovers yestaday handles lovely no problems fitting went to plan, the n/s driveshaft pop out a little when I was knocking the knuckle down (ball joint removed from knuckle while I knocked down to give more room also) obviously refitted drive shaft and topped up with oil!

There was a short grinding noise happened 2 times then when I got home (5 miles home) g/box oil p**sing out... uh oh!!

Got car on the ramp today and topped up the g/box oil to check where leaking snd its goin straight in and coming straight out the very bottom between bell housing and side of engine, loads and loads of metal flake in the oil too???

I have spare gearbox and will buy new clutch kit as its well contaminated id imagine, gonna change drive shaft oil seals to any other seals you guys would recommend changing at same time???

Also car is about 20mm lower than it was on the b4 and eibach set up so not really low any ideas what caused this,I havnt started striping it yet just thought id ask

thanks in advance

gonna be a busy weekend!!

I I read that right, it sounds like the crank seal has let go. Is it engine oil or gearbox oil thats come out?

Yes it is. Just careful not to damage the metal around it. I find it easiest to use a pick and stab it through the soft rubber part of the seal and pull it out like that. Offer the new one up and use the old one on top of it as a guide then gently and evenly tap it in with a hammer. Take not of where the old one sat because they don't always go all te way in. I'm pretty sure the gti one sits flush with the block and not as far in as it will go. Push it too far and it will just p**s out oil.

Cheers for tip niall I always have a look before I replace bits like that anyway. I should be getting here in the workshop later to start getting the box out! Do you have to take subframe out at all??

Nope no touching the subframe, though i have seen some cretins drop one to do a clutch on a 205.

I laughed, lots.

You don't need to touch the subframe.

When you've removed the geaerbox mounting stud and speedo drive housing like WP suggested, you will have sufficient room to lower the gearbox.

Best add a gearbox to your parts list! Smile

A small self tapper screwed into crank seal is another easy way to remove, then just pull on self tapper with mole grips Thumbs up
