Hey guys, been a while since I last posted, hopefully there are still some left who know me!

Been swamped with work since starting my new job in November, I even went pugless at around the same time!

Besides missing my 6, I'm now missing another prized possession, my bike.

Here it was, brand new a year ago. Even started a thread on it. http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=153944



and now?



Luckily im alive. Got a reasonably decent insurance payout but no compensation as I crashed into the van. Injuries are as follows:

Superficial scratches to head and light burns to right arm, (the bike quickly caught fire)
Left wrist open fracture,
Right wrist radius fracture,
Right hand dislocation (apparently dangling by skin and tendons!)
Right side ribs 1 - 9 fractured,
2 x cracked vertebrae,
Left ankle minor nerve damage, (very numb even now)
Dented pride Sad

Since I'm sat around at home bored I thought I'd post up. Maybe I'll be looking at getting another 6 as a second car with the claim payout! Devil

Did you have your bikes suspension setup the same as your last 306's? RazzLOL

I bought a bike with big torque so I didn't need to scream past stuff, I rarely hit national speed limit when overtaking slow vehicles.

So as to how fast I was going? No one knows for sure, Least of all me who was knocked senseless and placed into a coma for the next 3 days! Police estimated no faster than 40mph as I'd most likely be dead!

I'm inclined to agree, I stopped dead and was pinned down by the bike (250kg so very much pinned!) and was lucky to be pulled out before I was roasted. A dead stop at above 40mph would surely have killed me? My helmet is cracked but doesn't look too bad.

Think that my arms and chest took the best part of the impact. The dent in the van was large though, and witnesses said it got shunted a goodly amount.

Crazy stuff!

It looks like you have just used up one of your 9 lives mate,pleased to hear you are ok oversley you are a bit battered and bruised,the bike can always be replaced,but having had bikes myself i know how you are feeling Thumbs up

You're lucky to be alive, perhaps this is a message to be more careful?

Hope you make a full recovery, wrist injuries can be absolute buggers to heal properly as blood supply to the bones of the wrist is very low and has a big effect on recovery time depending on where the break is.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you bud.

Holy crap, that doesn't sound to good... glad you are "well" at least.
I would love to get a bike in the likes of a MV f3 675cc but I know myself well enough so i just don't Razz

Cheers for your replies guys, I'll be fixed soon! Andy do your theory, we all know bikes can be dangerous, but so can a car. Granted the chance is higher on a bike, but I think its an acceptable risk. I'm still not put off! And marco, Id love an MV! quite a few in price range now too Yes

Here's a google maps road view

Point 1.

Following a slow moving lorry round a left curve, I make sure I tuck left to see what is ahead of the lorry. I don't see anything, I'm good to overtake when the road and traffic permit. Little do I know the reason the lorry is so slow is because he is up the arse of a slow van who isn't so sure where he is. The lorry is therefore hiding the van, Hence why I didn't see it when I tucked left.

Point 2.

No oncoming traffic as I come onto the straight, I'm in 5th and I open up the throttle to zip past, still cant see anything in front of the lorry, There is a little farm junction approaching on my right, I know this route and I've never seen it used before, nothing waiting to enter/exit, proceed with overtake.

Point 3.

CRUNCH! I bounce my head off the back of a van that seemingly came out of nowhere. I'm out for the count, fire, blood, panic, noise etc. The farm junction was the slow moving vans destination. The junction is barely wide enough for a car, so the van stayed left in order for him to be able to swing into the lane. For me it was too late, nowhere to go.

Biking isnt that dangerous for me; mainly because my MOT cert says.

The doctors have said its anyones guess. They say my strength will recover entirely, but probably only 50% movment. We'll see Smile

Damn, bad luck matey but glad you're okay. If it's any consolation, just reading this thread will make other people more aware when they're in a similar situation, by sharing you may have prevented other people from having the same off.

So what bike you buying next? Another XJR? Or something bigger? LOL
