I've been trying to clear a blocked sunroof drain on my P1. I've blasted compressed air down it, which came straight back past the gun, so I then removed the headliner and the tube from the sunroof and stuck the gun down the tube hoping to get a better seal and the air still came straight back out. Whatever is blocking it is really stuck in there. I've also tried one of those drain unblocker cable tube things and couldn't push whatever is down there through, it did go down a long way though, so I assume the blockage is crap getting into the bottom from the wheel arch end.

Are there any other good ways to unblock it? For example, is it easy to get at the drain in the wheel arch, and if so, where actually is it?
I've considered using bleach, mister muscle, boiling water etc. but I'm not sure how the rubber drain pipe would tolerate this and as it is literally inside the a-pillar I really don't fancy it degrading and falling to bits.

Does anyone have any further ideas, or know whether or not the rubber would be tolerant of any of these methods?

Thanks.

Dyno rod... Does it rain in the car from ultrasonic sensor after heavy rain?

Yes, it is definitely the front right sunroof drain.
Aerial has been replaced and siliconed and checked etc. Water does not drain down that hose and will overflow if there is too much rain.

I just park it on the kerb so the water drains out the other.

Someone has suggested a fairly easy method of simply replacing the tube so I'll give that a go.

Thanks!

I was thinking that but didn't want to melt any plastics etc.
I've ordered new hose and I'm just going to replace it.

I'd try unblocking it first, I imagine that would be a nightmare trying to route the new tube.

I used some thick cable to try unblocking mine, worth a try first? If you are using an airline again, hold the tube tight against the line so no air can come back out if there is a block.

I've used an air line twice, held it tight, cable tied it, used a pipe unblocking cable...
I'll tape the new tube to the old one and just pull it through, I've been trying to unblock it for ages.

Have you pulled the panels off and squeezed the pipe to pinpoint the blockage?

I'd be very careful if doing that. My friend had a 306 years ago where they hadn't routed the drain hose correctly in the factory. Once they established that was the fault, the a pillar had to be cut open to get access, before being welded back up! I wonder if some household drain cleaner would maybe do the trick before you go to the hassle of replacing the drain hose?

I feel your pain about leaking sunroofs though. It's certainly put me off buying another car with a sunroof.

That sounds like a story that's been exaggerated each time over the years.

    So did I.
The aerial base was definitely leaking, I've sorted that, the rear lights & boot also no longer leak, just this one to sort now.
The sunroof drains on one side, but not the other so after heavy rain it overflows.

Also the tape you put around the sunroof pulled the lacquer off Sad Sad Sad
Will hopefully get all the little bits of lacquer peeling sorted in the summer time though as the boot has a bit too.

I will first try to get to the other end of the pipe behind the wheel arch and see if it has been folded or squished up somewhere, this could have happened when the cambelt was done perhaps, as this is the side you need access to it on. Is it also possible to see some of the middle of the drain pipe by removing the scuttle panel? I've never looked at the other end of it so if it is routed incorrectly it might be a bit hard to actually find. LOL

It does sound like it could be routed incorrectly and pinched somewhere if the airline wasn't strong enough to unblock it as it worked immediately when I tried it on my 106, muddy crap isn't that hard to shift I wouldn't have thought.

    Thanks for the replies.

I heard they re-shelled it with a shell that had unblocked sunroof drain pipes.

Sounds like a right bugger! Sorry about that tape dude Sad If needed ill send some money to help with sorting it as I didn't advertise it with warning tape all over it!

PS: I got your PM, really liked the yellow lights Thumbs up but can see why you removed them. Like the fogs too.

Reminds me of my old beauty...

Damn I miss them both Cry

Very kind offer, you're under no obligation to as it was sold as seen...we'll see...might try rattlecanning myself but worried it will turn out completely gash. A mate had some good paint work done by someone for pretty cheap though so might explore that.

I can sympathise with missing old 306s....I miss the one I replaced with your old one!

    Right.

I removed the wheel arch liner and the wing, I cannot find the drain pipe at all, I think it is inside the box section of the chassis that is behind the top of the wing. Having watched water drain out of the other side, it doesn't come into the wheel arch it comes out of the chassis behind the wheel arch, near the front of the sill.

I've really no idea what to try next...can't see the bloody pipe anywhere.
    All helpful suggestions appreciated.

Does anyone know the precise routing of these drain pipes on a 3dr shell?
I didn't completely remove the scuttle panel so that might be the next thing to try?

Bump. Any ideas? Driving me mental having to park on kerbs/slopes/anything that will bank the car sideways everywhere.

    No, not at all.
I'm not sure what's going on as muddy crap would come out with an air line and a drain unblocker being shoved down there but I've no idea how it could have pinched itself inside the chassis.

There was a lot of crap around the sill area which I removed though so maybe it is just severely blocked at the bottom.

They are 13mm OD so inside diameter probably 8-10mm, so probably could try that, not got any lying about but could get some.
I tried a drain unblocker but it was only just thin enough so might not have gone down all the way.
