My dad has the 150bhp 1.9TDi VW Bora and yesterday he was driving and pulled up at a cafe to have a cuppa.

When he got back in and started driving there was no power/ the turbo was not kicking in and therefore the car was struggling to get up to speed.

However we then stopped for some food and later started the car up and since then so on the drive home last night and the drive in to work for me this morning (as I am borrowing the car) the turbo is working fine.

Any possible suggestions of what could be at fault/ any common causes etc?

Cheers,
Doon!

my 306 hdi gets me 600+ every month! it's great for commuting and throwing plasterboard and breezeblock in the back - not great for getting ladies though. unless you put them in the boot

i read into it when my mate had issues with his Seat Leon turbo, his was the same. there's diy methods of cleaning them, involves dismantling it and then you might as well put all new seals in it whilst it's apart anyway. he needed the car quick though so he got a recon turbo. it could be the n75 valve thing though, google them, seem quite common

Get it code read first, same engine as in my Leon PD150 engine code will be ARL. There's 3 valves on the bulkhead one does the throttle flap one does the EGR valve one does the turbo. Check all the vacume pipes on the engine as they rub through in various places, and there are companies that make fuel additives that are meant to help clean the veins in the Turbo in a VGT setup.

They also suffer boost pipes leaking massively due to the s**tty seals and clips design insteD of just jubilee clips. I'm in the process of changing all of mine for uprated items.

I take it your dad doesn't give it much of a boot full most Of the time?

You can get a recon Turbo on eBay for £300 that's been done using Garret parts. Not the end of the world.

Cheers Armz. Sometimes he does boot it but its generally just used for getting to work and back which is about 4 miles each way and at 5 in the morning so roads are clear and he just takes it easy.

I'll pass all this info on to him so he can decide what to do about it...

I've seen a cleaner online for £50 one that you spray on to the turbo etc and it also comes with a fuel additive.

As I say its only happened once yesterday and its worked fine since (so far) so he will probably monitor it and see if it goes again. He had a quick look and couldn't see any leakage etc so was hoping its just a blocked/ stuck hose somewhere.

In the 3 pack of solenoid a there's also a one way valve there which if blocked causes no vac to the turbo so worth giving that a clean out. Just make sure it goes back in the same way it came out or you'll have no turbo at all lol

If its the VNT vanes sticking in the turbo, dont spend £50 on turbo cleaning products, spend some time on the net, google Mr Muscle oven cleaner VAG turbos and you'll be amazed at what can be done for £3.99.

I had sticking vanes in my Octavia TDI 110bhp and did just that, freed them up, no more limp mode and no big bill.

Low boost killer lmao mines making approx 190bhp and 410nm torque and I have a low boost which would leave it for dead however it does love nothing more than to eat the front tyres in every gear. The torque and the fact that from 1500rpm to the redline it pulls constantly in every gear is great for a derv.

I've read about the mr muscle jobby. Well worth a try if You've got problems.

Interesting, I have the same car as a daily only 90 hp though and the same issue sometimes usually goes in 3rd if I hold boost for a long time I just turn it on and off again and it's fine. Most likely he N75 valve but it just makes me drive more Eco thus silly miles for f**k all money!

I think you'd have me up hills and through mid range due to the silly torque but top end I'd be suprises if I didn't win. I've beaten supras among many other things once over a tonne.

Take it you got a diff then? My Leon's useless enough as it is in the first 2-3 gears unless your reall carefull with the throttle.
One of my mates has a fabia VRS currently at 180bhp but has similar plans to yours.

Also I've heard that changing the turbo looses the lazy driving of a pd engine and you have to rev the bollox off it?
Be interesting to drive one tho.

Depends who maps them as to the driveability.

mines mapped by https://www.hidden-power.co.uk he does a proper custom map, not just a generic flash that 99% of VAG tuners do.

yeah I've got a Peloquin LSD, even in the wet grip is awesome.

ref top speed, it goes off the clock Wink

Saw this the other day, guy spent 7-8k plus the cost if the car to get it that quick makes me wonder why he didn't buy a faster car to begin with lol.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/144665-our-stage-3-diesel-turbo-kit/#entry1810755

Also very good torque but with a derv the power drops to about 200bhp near the limiter where as a sc6 pulls progressively to the limiter mine made 248bhp at 7650 rpm iirc

Like I said would be interesting to see the outcome. Serbs are quick off the line and mid but if I would catch you higher up or not would be the question
