its worth noting that bent valves can appear to look straight by looking at them. My method is to remove the valve spring and use a valve grinding stick to rotate the valve in its seat, if it is bent you will see it straight away. You say you haven't noticed a lack in power so the bent ones may not be very obvious, look for witness marks on the piston crowns and use the above method to identify which ones have to be replaced.

the pistons will be marked but i doubt if they will be damaged to the extent that they are no longer useable. The valve stems on these engines are very thin, takes next to nothing to bend them

Hard to tell on a video but that sounds quite 'knocky' for a 'tapper' and could well be the bottom end. How long has it sounded like that?

Easy way to tell if It's head or bottom end is see if It's louder listening underneath by the sump.

Either way I'd say that needs looking at asap as it doesn't sound very healthy at all and will only do more damage.

I just spin all the valves in a lathe or a drill. you will easily see if they are bent.

That sounds bottom end to me. Yes

The reason I say that is because firstly, tappers are quite high pitched "taps" and yours is more dull sounding, secondly because the noise is too fast. Remember, the cams turn at half the speed of the crank, so at idle the "taps" from bent valves are much less frequent than in your video.
I'm convinced that noise is running at crank speed.

Just change the engine.
Sounds to me like a tapper when on the right side of the engine as you look at it. But bottom end from the left side.

If I decide to go down the replacement engine route, think I will see the old unit off with a couple of trackdays!

Your old blaze was a tapper - that's a bottom end thumper not going to last very long at all.

Maybe, its difficult to tell. The airbox side side sounds tappy. The cambelt side sounds knocky. Unfortunately the vid dont really record the noise to well.

I've heard probably 100 'tappers' in my time, maybe more and they all sound like your old blaze. Yes

The noise is too fast for camshaft speed at idle and too dull.
