Should be having my steering wheel and gear knob/gaiter back for the vRS next week. If you want i'll bung some pics up of that one as well.

Gone for slightly thicker, black alcantara with black stitching this time.

If you could post pics that would be great thanks Yes

Still debating if i want the knob and gaiter done or not, a pic would seal the deal!

Black alcantara with black leather centre stripe

Just black leather

Black leather with white stripe

Dimpled black leather with red stiching.

An alcantara gear knob though.
VERY tempting.
Wonder if i still have teh spare one lieing around

Yes as it was originally a Rallye wheel these are plastic and I think the leather has been put over the top, if using a gti wheel I would think the old leather would be removed and reapplied with the new.

Certainly feels great, strange when you then get into a standard car.

You know you want to get it flocked and show us what it looks like. I'm undecided on the whole idea because of the horrible plastic airbag in the middle.

But nearly all cars with leather rim steering wheels and airbags have the "plastic" in the middle. Having seen the pic with airbag fitted on Carl's project thread I think this is a good way of improving the look and feel of the car while keeping an OEM look, and definitely a big improvement on the rubber Rallye wheel. The 306 airbag is not the most beautiful but on the other hand it isn't that bad, and flocking it wouldn't necessarily be an improvement IMO.

Having seen the handiwork I'm keen to get mine done when I can find my other wheel - in a box somewhere after a recent house move.

Had my bits back for the Skoda. Jack did the gear knob and gaiter and also the wheel in black alcantara with black stitching.

Like Carls, the wheels slightly thicker and feels brilliant.

And today I fitted the steering wheel.

I think a slightly thicker wheel would be an improvement. I don't think it is compulsory though - if you give him a leather wheel and he peels the old leather off and puts the new stuff on without any additional padding it should be pretty much the same as it was before. From threads on other forums found when i was googling Royal Steering Wheels a lot of people ask him to put additional padding on request.

The extra thickness is marginal, it's only when side by side with an original wheel can you tell.
