Yo Dudes!!

Question for you experts..........

My car had a new Valeo Clutch just over a year ago,but has not done many miles. The pedal has always been stiff at the top inch of travel, as it returns to release position, which is a bit of a pain in stop start situations. Also, when in stop start situations it sometimes ends up losing feel and only has about an inch of working pedal to engage clutch, but then after a while goes back to full pedal use. There is no slipping either.

Last night however it only had said inch or so of clutch pedal use and gear change was difficult and i wasnt in stop start situation. I had a press of clutch again today and it was better again. The pedal returns fully, there's just a sloppy clutch pedal. its like slack in cable is not being taken up Unsure

So, the million dollar question.....Cable Or Clutch??Dunno

That sounds like your slave cylinder air is trapped in it just needs to be bled if you are handy with cars you could do it yourself

306s don't have hydraulic clutches.

Try pressing the clutch as far down as possible then slip your foot off the side so the clutch pedal jumps back up. Some times this can reset the auto adjuster but in all honesty, that sounds like what happened with my 1.8 when i first got it and that needed a new pressure plate Sad

I'd try a clutch cable first mick and remove the return spring from the side of the clutch pedal as it can cause the stiff top part of pedal movement.

Cables are about £30ish if it doesn't cure it then something like one of your pressure plate springs is broken but that's unlikely.

Battery drain should soften the feel of the release bearing.

seem to have fixed this by "jiggling" the cable where it exits from self adjuster to gearbox. new cable is sat here waiting though just in caseThumbs up

It won't last for long unfortunately Mick, the adjuster will be seized due to the exhaust manifold drying out all the grease within it. Yes
