Hello guys, as the dreaded winter approaches I need to fill my rad with coolant as I know through the summer it was topped up with water, so any advice how to take out water and add coolant I know the pipe from behind engine can be removed to take out the water but would it be easier to run the car and let water escape from bleed value till the water runs low enough to fill it up with coolant any advice is appriciated thanks

You could get some tube and syphon some out from where the radiator cap is.

Just take the bottom rad hose off and drain it out.

Most radiators have a drain screw at the bottom, opposite side to the filling header tank. Yes

Right guys, I know all my coolant system is filled with water not anti-freeze, so shal I bleed water out from the bottom bleed hole and leave half water and top the rest up with coolant, I mean pure coolant, not ready mix, or shal I drain the whole system and start fresh, also would I need to take air out of the system or could I get away with that if I still have half water and top the rest up with coolant please help thanks guys

You're best off draining the complete system, filling it up again with a 50/50 mix and then doing a full bleed. Thumbs up

Are you sure you didn't have a bottom bleed point? It's the opposite corner to the radiator cap facing towards the gearbox usually.
I'm not convinced that you will have drained the system by trying to blow the coolant out of the top bleed point, if i was you i'd look for the bottom bleed point or jack the car up and remove the bottom hose from the waterpump to drain it, flush it all through with a hose pipe, reconnect the bottom hose and refill the system and bleed it.
It's worth having some form of antifreeze in the coolant at all times imo as i'm sure it helps prevent corrosion and may help lubricate the water pump too. Smile

i found a good way of flushing it out was to undo all the bleed screws. then put a compressor line (a tyre pump hand gun attachments with a flexy nossle was esiest) upto the heater matrix bleeder hole. this really flushes it all out quickly.

Put heaters on hot undo bleed screw on matrix pipes and put neat coolant in the rad.

Stan or any one else that can help, I want to make this simple and know I have coolant in my system for winter, could I just empty 1/2 to 3/4 of my expansion tank and put pure anti freeze in, would that mix it self as it goes around engine and to double check its mixed I could open the bleed point to see if coolant comes out, reason is I just wna keep it simple and my pipe is busted and it held by 2 jubilee clips and some plastic pipe and also my thermostat housing is cracked and small amount of water escapes so I really don't want to make more work for me

You will need to replace the cracked thermostat housing first. Yes

To ensure a proper mix you will need to drain or largely drain the system and then fill up with fresh. You can't do a job like this half-arsed. It has to be done properly, starting with replacing that housing which is causing a leak.
