I've had a clunk coming from n/s front for a while that's been p**sing me off,.

Jacked her up held the wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock and found some play there. This means the ball joint yes?

Took wishbone off the car to check p bush while I was there. The ball joint seems fine when moving it by hand , still pretty stiff( ooo err). Thing is this is the 3 rd Feeking ball joint in 2 years and the car does very few miles.

Would an ovaled hub show same symptoms as a fubar ball joint?

Could be the Track rod end if you get movement 9-3 o' clock.
When does it clunk?

Get it when going over bumps( not drop link rattle though) also when braking hard.

I've got new top mounts sitting there , might just buy new p bush, bj and track rod end and replace the lot.

Hmm

Looked tre yesterday but couldn't see any signs of damaged rubber and didn't look like movement there. Could it be at the rack end? f**king hope not

Could it not be your top mount knocking on over bumps maybe? I replaced track rods, tie rods and ball joints on my v6 last year and still knocked over bumps. Turned out to be my top mounts.

I've got new top mounts and just ordered p bush ( rubber starting to come away from steel core sleeve) and a tre.

Is there a wearing part at the rack end of track rod?

Could well be a oval hub, Just don;t do the pinch bolt up too tight. Mind anything other than TRW ball joints don;t last long at all

Does over tightening the pinch bolt cause ovaled hubs? Always wondered how that happened.

Ordered a lemforder one, ecp got 50% off just now

could well be play in your track rods rather than ends. Jack the car up and with a decent pry bar between the bottom of the hub and the arm, see if you get any play, this should show up any movement in the BJ or reveal an ovaled hub
