Think to fit its a bit of a pain and you'll need gear pullers?

actually, you'll get quite far with just a socket set and a small pointy screwdriver a hammer and some punches, as long as said socket set has a 12 sided 28mm socket in it.

Well, i have collected my car today and i have to say that the kit its amazing, the sound and the gearchange its very fast, the only thing im worried about its a clicking sound when the car its in neutral, like something is loose, but my mechanic said thats normal.
I have tested the car at the main avenue in here, and everything is normal.
In a few days ill put a video in youtube so the forum can have an idea of my happiness.
Thanks ASH!!

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in hanging the video but I've been kind of busy with flights. I can say for the moment that the gearshift can be made with the clutch but have to be quick, so the engine dont lose to much Rpms, the more delay the more damage to the dogs, the faster the best, just slight pressure on the lever and when the clutch enter the gearshift will enter very easily. To make the shift without the clutch you have to remove the engine load, this is to remove the pressure on throttle just a moment and shift to the next gear, fast and accurate, then accelerate. Here you can also make a slight pressure to the lever and just when the engine drops Rpms the next shift will enter fast. To downshift you need to give it a little pressure to the accelerator just a dab to increase the rpms and at that moment move to the next gearshift.
I have used the car a couple of times and no worries, the gearbox works fine.
Well guys, i dont have time this week to record the video but I have free weekend so I hope to do the recording this sunday.
Best regards from Peru and sorry for the bad english.

Nice review Thumbs up

May be a silly question but it sounds like normal shifting through the replaced gears is not advised? Dunno

Hi mate, if you make the shift quickly and accurately you'll hear a light clunk (using the 2 methods, using the clutch but doing the gearshift very fast and the other method lifting the throttle pedal just a moment allowing the engine load to be removed, make the gearshift and accelerate) but if you use the clutch and make the shift in the normal way, or very slowly allowing to decrease the rpms too much you'll hear and feel like something is going to break down.
I recommend a quick shifter, solid gear links and a lightweight flywheel.
Greetings

I could probably afford it, but id rather not LOL

How much does a used dog gear kit go for roughly? Didn't a 6 speed one sell recently for around £1700?

The Sadev one on ebay went for £2k which was pretty cheap I thought, but they are only rated to around 180lb/ft so a SC engine would obliterate it.

Theres a vid here> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYwAIs8Bwpo of me using my dog box but its not very clear, and it looks like I am using the clutch occasionally too.

Main thing with dog boxes is to be firm and positive in the gear change, don't dilly dally because the dogs aren't forgiving at all like a syncro is. If you crunch the gears you'll knock the dogs off which will inevitably end up mashing the rest of the box. If you're going to do clutchless down changes then do all you're braking before changing down so the load on the dogs is minimal. You can even left foot brake then a dab of throttle to unload the dogs and drop it down a cog although it'll take a lot of practice! Up changes are much easier and less likely to destroy your dogs, just load the gear lever then off the gas and back on again and the gear should change nice and positively.

I know a man thats been trying to get hold of a new final drive for his but Drenth won't make one so not sure they are still making the dog gear kits. Only people I know is Sadev but they are limited in there strength and you can still buy the original Pugsport ones like I use but they aren't cheap and I don't know what torque they are rated too, Avanti motorsport do a kit also but not sure if its a dog kit or not.

Thanks for the info guys Thumbs up

I was thinking of getting either a dog gearset or complete box to start hill climbing late 2014/early 2015. The rallye id use is a standard engine with PT80 cams, unlikely to have any more than 170bhp so torque shouldn't be an issue.

If another group buy for the 3rd and 4th started Id be intetested. Seems like a good compromise.
