i have narrowed it down definately to my fuel pump.... effor to start, stalling on cold starts. nearly cutting out when i come to a stop were my symptoms.

and now ive put in a phase 1 1.4 306 fuel pump....... its starts first time from cold and doesnt feel like its gonna cut out when i come to a stop. (i had to reset my ecu under load before to stop the cutting out problem but now i dont have to)

i do feel like im lacking in power at the higher revs now though..... when i hit 4000+ i get a drop in power.

the pump unit ive put in from the 1.4 306 is definately a smaller pump so i figure it can do the pressue but not the flow rate of a gti hence it struggling at the higher revs. (how dangerous is this to engine health?)

few questions now.....
the filter bag that is attached to the pump has a brass washer that compresses it on.
the 1.4 ones washer is fine but the gti one i have has split.

could a split brass washer on the filter bag thing actually be whats messing up my pump giving it the sypmtoms of low power?

or do i just need a new pump of the correct flow and pressue?

cheers in advance
jim
