I'm going to replace the brake lines on my Civic and I don't want to get genuine parts as they're astronomical. Can anyone recommend a good place to get them from which are good quality? I'm not interested in braided ones, just the normal rubber jobs.

Just an example of how ridiculous Honda parts are, I went to get two small stainless steel washers today from a dealer, they're the ones that fit to the banjo bolt on the brake caliper. The parts guy came out with them in his hand laughing and said "have a guess how much these are". I looked at them and thought "I don't know, 75p each or something?" He said "no, they're £7.68 for the two" Blink

I've fitted goodridge hoses. Certainly felt a difference!

I can't understand why people use braided ones when their car is only being used on the road for normal driving. Plus it's a modification that is obvious and I can't be bothered with the hassle of insurance changes etc.

The easy answer is go to a motor factors if your too tight to pay dealer pricesThumbs up

Well stainless steel ones are fit and forget, they also feel much better through the brake feel, and they look spot on, so there are a few reasons why people use them lol.

Standard motorfactor lines will be fine, try and find one that does Blu Print parts, they specialise in Japanese import stuff and its often o.e parts in the box.

Its a misnomer that braided lines are fit and forget, they should be replaced periodically as its impossible to inspect like you can with a standard rubber line.

What even SS type, I understand they will never last forever but fit and forget far longer than standard rubber hoses.

I have no doubt braided ones are better but they're just not my thing and like I said, I don't want to go down the route of having a modified vehicle and finding insurers etc. I just want to stick with O.E spec.

Coskev, there is a reason for this thread and that's the fact I don't know a great deal about these things and I'm simply asking for help and advice which is what these threads are for. If I'm honest your last reply did p**s me off as it came across like you're intentionally trying to spark some kind of argument? Dunno

Presumed you had a reasonable understanding of cars/parts having over 5000 posts on a car related forumDunno

3 choices:
1,dealer part.
2, motor factor pattern part, motaquip/ecp/gsf/motormania or whatever factor you have locally.
3, uprated braided lines.

I can't really see one make of pattern part being different to another, unless your chosen supplier lists a budget or premium quality partThumbs up

I cant see there being much if any extra charges for replacing rubber brake lines with braided, bet then again its all down to how greedy your insurance company is???

DCC's spot on, Braded lines cannot be checked, I have known a fair few have issues, all various makes as well so these days the std rubber ones are fine

If they aren't any good due to possible unseen leaks then you wouldnt sell them, what is the point of braided then just looks, surely motorsport use them dont they?

I thought like braided fuel lines resist being worn through.

Certainly they do resist abrasions and impacts far better than a Rubber hose, and that's purely the only reason to use them in reality, that and that it is very easy to have custom lengths and fittings made up even with MOT friendly swaged fittings (olive and nut fittings are not MOT legal...)

They should be treated more like a consumable item, changed before it fails as you cannot see internal damage typically, whereas a Rubber hose tends to last far longer and exhibits signs of deterioration before giving way totally.

Then they should have a use by date on then being though they appear to look like theyl last a lot longer than rubber ones. So how long will yours last Miles, what is your recommendations on how long to keep yours on a car that does less than 3k miles a year in dry weather ?
