I've done a quick search on cleaning products and it came back with nothing so i was curious to know what everyone else uses and what you think is best. I am of course refering to my car, not my body. So... Bodywork shampoo, polish, wax..... What is best? Smile

Shampoo I use meguiars gold class

It looks expensive but the bottle lasts YEARS

Polish I use ultimate compound
Wax I just use their carnauba one.

Which is best all depends on what you have (DA polisher or just hand power)
And how much time you want to spend.

Shampoo I'll use pretty much whatever I find cheap, usually just car plan wash/wax. I've tried most and can't say I notice any difference between them. The good finish is all in what you've done previously, all you need to do washing it is remove dirt so no need for anything fancy imo.

Polish at the moment I'm liking the poor boys black hole but It's meant for dark cars ideally. There are loads out there though and a lot depends what you want to pay as the prices vary massively between brands. A clay bar is the one thing you'll benefit from the most and is a must if you havnt got one.

If you want any cutting compounds to remove scratches and swirls I find the menzerna or 3m the best, farecla and others are good too though just a bit messy especially on a machine.

Have a look on detailing world and you'll find anything you need to know and good reviews on all different products.

Some good info here. Im not one to clean the car every weekend nor will i leave it until a nature expert shows a keen interest into it. I found some good deals on Amazon so have made some purchases...

    Autoglym bodywork shampoo 2.5L £12
    Autoglym clean wheels 1L £10
    Autoglym tyre dressing 500ml £5
Autoglym super resin polish 1L £10
    Poorboys clear Paste wax £12

I think i should invest in a clay bar as ive heard only good things about them.

Clay is great, always clay before polishing else its pointless polishing. Its also good for windows and screen. Then you could add some glass sealant. then when you go over 35 mph you don't need to use the wipers the water just falls off the screen, good stuff, I uses it on mine but screen was brand new which is easier.

I use megures detailing fluid where it wipes off finger marks and dust etc, dilute it for clay bar fluid.

Bilt hamber is the one for clay as you use it with water and isn't a pathetic size like most of them out there.

Those things you've bought should do the job nicely, Ive heard good things about that poorboys clear wax.

Fair enough but I'd still go for Bilt as It only needs water.

Meguires stuff imo is s**t unless It's their trade stuff, It's all way over priced and does nothing special, at least other expensive brands you can see the difference but I don't find megs do anything on the shelf that the autoglym equivalent isn't just as good for a good bit cheaper. Your just paying for the name that they have got from their trade products not what you buy in halfords. Each to their own though, I don't think there is a 'best' as such with cleaning products, just personal preference and opinion most of the time.

Yes it is I use the detailed spray cause I still have loads left. I use it when needed, car is polished to perfection and once a week I just use it to wipe over car, keepsgit clean without adding swirls to it when washing, two bucket way works but why wash when I can quickly wipe over. Car is used twice a week ish.

I use the clay cause I can pick it up same day not wait for post of bilt hamber stuff. If stones get in you have to buy another so.

I always use autoglym, mainly as i stockpiled a few of it when i was working at a car dealers.

Clay bars are a great invention, could do with a larger bar though, any ideas who makes a bigger bar?

Would try to stay away from a wash&wax product though, ive had some issues when ive come to apply paint renovator and the like, started to get a lot of swirling, but since i swapped to a basic wash/conditioner its cleared up, now what to do about my knackered rear bumper and dents that litter my car Sad
