Had this issue for a little while now which i thought was a headgasket on its way out but last week i did a sniffer test and it came back fine allthough will do another this weekend to double check it.

Basically where else can i be getting air into my cooling system. I bleed it untill no air left at thermostat (have no matrix in system) and no air in rad bleed point. I have done this using the coke bottle method and also blowing down the overflow tube to force it through, yet i still get a accumulation of air which then forces coolant from the overflow tube.
Its not to bad when driving sensibly but on a track day i have the overflow plumbed into a catch bottle which i can get around 750mm of coolant in after 15mins on track. Again i can then open the thermostat bleed point which is full of air..

Im not experiencing overheating but obviously because im keeping a keen eye on it

any ideas??

strange one. are there any weeping joints? have a look up inside the dash for signs of matrix failure, are heaters blowing cold?
I would do another sniff test, 750ml is alot of water to lose in a short period of time

Does the car mis-fire for a couple of seconds when started from cold?

No matrix fitted so all bypassed off. No leaks as far as I can find. Everything for me points to head gasket which is why I'm doing another check. It's just acumulating air in the system which is what's blowing the coolant out. There's no performance drop either as performs and runs well. It's just strange where the air is comming from

without actually seeing it plus your description, i would say your head gaskets blowing. my china had identical symptoms although ran perfectly. After removing the head i discovered the fire rings on each and every bore were blown.
Stop driving it and dig a bit deeper before you start mixing oil and coolant.

So is there no other ways to pressurise? Etc as yeah if the sniff shows a colour change then its head off etc but if it passes again I'm stuck as I had a mk4 golf a few years back which lost around 300mm coolant every 4weeks of normal driving and done a sniff test on that which took a while to turn colour but it did eventually go after a few mins. Done the rallye a week ago and had it going for around 5 mins with not a hint of change which is what puzzles me

My car was like this.
Basically none of the signs other than pressurised coolant.
Cambelt needed changing so i had a head refresh at the same time. Turned out the gasket was starting to go bwtween the cylinders. Most likely cuased by ny fan system being a bit s**t

if you were to have a weeping joint, dodgy hose etc then that would allow air into the coolant but saying that you would notice a leak, have a good check over everything including the water pump, look for white crusty deposits. If all seems water tight then i'm afraid to say your head's going to have to come off.
If gasket has gone then get the head checked properly, if you need to have it skimmed then make sure you get the appropriate thicker gasket to compensate the material removed.

Check the radiatorcap... i had the same problem, it was a bad radiatorcap that was leaking

If the head comes off it won't go back on as standard it'll go high comp but hoping to get a bit more use out if it before hand. Will sniff it again and see in a way if it fails at least it's a clear diagnosis but I just can't get my head around it as if its pressurising due to a gasket failure then a sniff test should show it quite clearly as its exhaust gasses that'll be upping the pressure as that's the only sign as its not gone between oil/water as got no mayo signs..

It's a strange one lol.

When you next use the car, leave it overnight afterwards and then in the morning undo the rad cap and see what happens.

There should be no noise at all. If pressure gets released when you undo it the following morning, then I'm 100% voting the HG is knackered. Yes

It doesn't hold pressure overnight. Was off track for around 2 hours and could open cap with no pressure. And have also tried it after a night etc and no pressure

It sounds like the rad cap itself could be the issue then. Yes

It's only cheap from Peugeot, so it may pay you to try another.

Not checked yet but the cap doesn't look to bad last time I checked but ill pick one up and give it a go

Thanks for the offer Craig but peugeot is only couple mins up road so ill just grab a new one as it'll be easier and wont cost alot

Could certainly be the seal on rad cap. What PSI is the cap? I had issues with the wrong cap fitted

14psi rings a bell. Will sniffer test tomorrow and if its good it can only be the cap surely as there's no where else it can be getting air in as far as I know so hopefully it'll be the cap as least its a nice cheap fix

Thought pro alloy would have supplied a nice cap to match the radWink
