Hi guys, what actually is it that causes this problem, valves, lifters, rocker arms ? I see it mentioned from time to time , but curious as to what causes it.

cheers

Moved to Engines. Smile

The reason has been listed before many a time.
Essentially, there are valves which are ever so slightly bent and therefore the spring strength of the valve spring is strong enough to pull the valve back onto it's seat and create a seal thus the lack of compression loss.

However, this constant 'bending' of the valve eventually weakens it and the head snaps off resulting in severe engine damage or complete failure.

Good point, tapping will be the bent valves as indicated above. Ticking will be loud injectors, not really much can be done about that. I always found the 440cc low boost injectors to be the loudest. Yes

As I say, it depends on the injector but I've found both the standard injectors and the Bosch 440s are quite loud. Yes
