I'm back in a Rallye and loving it!

I sold my Moonstone Gti after less than a month of ownership and snapped this up and even had some change left.
The Gti was so boring and uninspiring that it had to go.


Some might think I have taken a step back and It's the most underpowered car I've had in quite a while but wow, possibly also the most fun I've had in a long time!
It's so revvy and just a massive amount of fun down a twisty road. Certainly would leave the Gti behind.
Its a lot more rewarding to drive and makes you work the gearbox a lot, keeping in the right powerband and exploring grip levels. It's a car you can be very ballsy in because it gives so much feedback.

It came with..

Standard s1 1.3 8v engine
Original 1.3 Rallye gearbox, in great condition
Goodridge hoses
GE quickshift
Constella uprated gearrods
Nissens Radiator
B4 rear dampers
K&N in the original airbox,sounds great

Factory ABS AND sunroof, no leaks
It's the only s1 Rallye I know of with abs,and it works.

The previous owner was very honest and pointed out all faults..
needed some scratches sorted
Rear lower arm mounts are worn
Engine mounts very wobbly
Roof very faded and a small spot of rust on the back of the sill.

This is what it looked like after the first clean.


I was quick to start making some changes so a Raceland manifold went on and a full set of Peugeotsport GrpA engine mounts. Things now vibrate like mad but the throttle is a lot more snappy and instant and the car is more stable through corners and doesn't lift off quite as much.

The Raceland made it rev a bit more freely with a nice punch in the high revs.





The K&N filter makes a lovely roar in high revs and the exhaust is very raspy with occasional pops and bangs. Can't beat a Pugsport.


I then tcut the roof and went over the rest of the paint with a claybar and some wax. Fair to say it shines up pretty well!






The interior came up nicely after a good clean,carpet is nice and red but seatbelts need a good wash.



Engine bay after a decrease and quick wipe down

Next up I will fit a lower strut brace and have new Balljoints fitted as well as New wishbone Rear mounts and polybushed middle mounts.

Im also on the lookout of some B6 or B8 dampers and some -30 mm springs to suit. I think that'll be enough for now to make it a fun little toy!

Rinse and repeat. I have said that on 3 different occasions now. I give it until the end of october :p
Its very nice though but the problem is it was nice standard, you bought it, are going to make it like the rest and then sell it.

I'm keeping all the standard bits. Mods are subtle and will make it drive quite a bit better. It'll be put through its paces next month at Brands Hatch.

Looks nice, can't be many of these left now.

This would be *really* good with a 1.6 16V engine in it: it would be a great compromise between having a lovely revvy engine whilst gaining some decent torque and power.

Also, I'd bet that it would be even more rewarding to drive if the interior was stripped out.

Looks lovely. But got to be honest, really glad you didnt get a 205. Although its a shame you'll ruin this fine oneohsix

No idea what's up with the huge pics..Dunno it's only on this forum.

As for 16ving. Yes it will happen but Only if this engine goes bang. I drive it with enough respect for it to hopefully last a long time.
Interior is in great nick and is staying in. It's all plastic and cloth so I can't see it weighing that much. And mind you I didn't strip the last one. Sold it with full interior and bought it back fully stripped!

You need to resize those pics or use flickr which gives you a smaller size option without doing anything further.


Please dont 16v it, too many good cars ruined with valvers nowadays, not enough original cars! If it goes just fix it!

dont you dare put a 16v in this car. You have done this about fifteen million times already and are likely going to sell it so leave it original and keep it or buy a car you actually want for more than 1 month

You need to keep up. If he wants a 106 Rallye with a 16v he can just sell this one and buy back the car he sold 3 weeks ago that he put one in.

Lower strut brace now fitted, turn in is a bit sharper but lower arms need doing soon.

16v makes it a proper riot but for now it'll stay as it is. It sticks to the back of the 172 cup down a twisty lane so a few little suspension mods will make it that bit better.
I need to order new wishbones because I just don't have the tools to press New mounts on. It feels a bit washy at the front.

Also the rear is rather happy, especially when braking into bends and lifting off. All usual fwd characteristics but it's a bit too eager for my liking,especially at speed. Better tires and a firmer and lower suspension set up will sort that hopefully.

New wishbones on the way and sprayed the steels red! Got some s2 steelies on the way so why the he'll not, I like it!
