I literally cut my fuel bill by more than half when I bought my HDi going from a GTi-6 doing the same round town drive to work every day. They cost f**k all to run and when a bit breaks you just go to your local scrappy and Roberts your mothers brother.

Plus they are sub 1k for a half decent one and they handle well!

Win Win Win Yes

Get caught with a car and the dpf deleted is an offence, chances are your unlikely to get caught but theres always that chance.

Carl

Really? Where have you got that info from?

Decats on petrols I can understand, its a mot fail and the emissions would fail a road side test.

But a dpf is not part of a mot test?
And diesels only get a smoke test for emissions?

Seen one for 600 with a mere 194k on it. Trouble is they're all battered. 4 different shades of colour, dents galore etc. I'm not too bothered about high miles but no one seems to look after them anymore.

Mine had done 240k when I sold it, I put 20k on it in just over a year. Had to spend a bit on it but nothing major. It was a bit of a shed body wise but what do you expect for the mileage? There are some nice ones about but expect to pay a bit more. If you just want it as a mile muncher I wouldn't worry too much about it but thats just me... you still have the Rallye to polish Thumbs up

Clio dci, £30 road tax genuine 65 mpg, if you dont mind a small car. Remapped dci 100 with intercooler and decat will see 130bhp and over 200ft torque and still get 60mpg. Everything of a 172 fits aswell to an extent if you want to get giddy with suspension etc.

Most hdi 306s now are getting on a been to the moon and road tax like a 6 all imo of course.

As I say, if you sell, we'll have it. If her mot on the zx starts to approach we'll have to get a different one. Hopefully a god one is common enough.

Maybe selling the Rallye as I also have the Alfa to use as a "weekend car". Hmm Much to think about me thinks

Sadly I have a 2.0 Xsara HDI 90bhp 5door. Its white. 86k on clocks and I paid sod all for it, £50 for an oil & brake service. Ive taken a bit of a chamce on it, but its already paying for itself. First tank of diesel averaged over 45 mpg, and that wasnt taking it easy... i filled it up last night after a 120mile motorway run and it averaged 58mpg. Its far too econonical and sensible though, it doesnt feel natural... so as soon as the 205 is ready expect to see it for sale!

Why not C5 VTR+ ?
160 hp and it could be tweaked easily to 200hp with all the luxuries you get in a saloon car.
i wish i could live in the UK where you got such low prices for cars.

If it's done properly nobody will ever tell the filter is not there, unless they somehow look into the DPF housing!

Just did a C4 Picasso 1.6HDI DPF off, and the owner went into a Citroen dealership and asked them to check the DPF condition and they told him it's okay, no need to worry about the filter for a while (which is now not even there LOL )

All the EGT, differential pressue, air mixer flap values change and look jsut how they should, although the filter is removed.

Why the hell do these filters cost so much anyway. I remember when I had the Volvo, people were moaning because the part price was in the region of £700.

I have a 1991 205 diesel. It cost me £300 and came with 1 year mot. Ive had it 2 1/2 years now and all its cost me is a heater matrix (£30) and tyres (13" ). It does 60mpg easily and i dont have to worry where i park it. I dont even have to lock it! Its great fun to drive and for the price, great vfm!
Im not vain enough to worry what people think of me when i drive it. You can laugh if you like but i dont care because it so cheap, it saves me soo much money to put towards my other car Smile

As per ratman.

It was a tossup between 306 and Xsara when I got my HDi and I preferred the shape of the 306, but the 110 engine setup in the Xsara lends itself to a light tune much better. Cheap as chips too.

As for longevity it has no DPF and mine is purring along still 8 years later.

Mine's not a shed, but then I look after her don't plan on selling it for the time being. Mines on 256K and counting, drives lovely. Love

Xsaras are cheap compared to the 306, and of course newer in most HDis.
