Bought this from Rich_w, think it was one of the first batch ever made. This means it is unfortunately one of the one's whereby the starter motor doesn't engage properly. It has been used on a rally car so its not been started that often compared to an everyday vehicle but there is some signs of wear on the teeth (see pic). There are some ways of using this without incurring any more wear but I'm not sure of them all, I think one way is to use a diesel starter?

SOLD.

yeah, currently in touch with Baz but thanks for the heads up anyway. I am right in thinking it knackers the teeth on the starter rather than the flywheel aren't I?

I believe the diesel ones engage on more of the tooth.

You can clearly see the damage on the bottom photo. The std 6 starter motor engages on less than half the width of the teeth on the first batch flywheels. I'm lead to believe that a diesel starter engages much deeper so limits any damage.
Fair play to Pete for making this clearThumbs up

Cool
