my mot report sheet is a lot cleaner now, bar the one fail.

ballljoint excessive play. argh ffs!!!!

this is still there after a new ball joint n swing arm there is still a tiny bit of play. thats from front the hubs ball joint clamp being a bit knackered/worn.

i definately have the right balljoint. but a ive been told i need to replace the hub now :S for cost effectiveness im planning on swapping the one over from my phase 3 xsi onto myphase 1 gti.

will this work/fit?

failing that is ther a quicker /easier bodge anyone can think of? epoxyputy or welding up the lose hole n filing it back or some kind of shim?

any help will be greatly appreciated

cheers
jim

two rusty car car with 26 years of rust between them. on a slanted drive. in this heat.

i just imgine horrible things going wrong. a 20 minute job can turn into a complete ballache with a rounded or snapped bolt.

im gonna go at it tommorow and see what happens. if all goes well itll be a few hours instead of my whole weekend.

just to check it is definately a 35mm socket i need for the hub nuts? i measured it with my adustable spanner and they came up at 34.5mm so i figure i need a 35mm?

Use a 36mm impact socket - it's fine. Halfords have them on the shelf.

Yes, the correct size is 35mm, although people have got away with a 36mm before as Dan said.

    thanks for info......

car spares has p**sed me off now, i ring today when i was told it would be in, no one is working there that was in on friday and no one knows jack about my socket.
i ring the nechells store who supposedly have the socket and they dont, they have to order it in.

so ebay once again will be saving my day.

Just get a 36mm, works perfect and will come in handy for any other applications you need it for rather than the 35mm

I've used the 36 on umpteen hubnuts with no wear to the nuts and won't be buying a 35 as the 36 does the job perfectly. Won't even slip on the tightest of nuts.

the 36mm is also a perfect fit on a mk3 Deisel mondeo oil filter housing.
