does anybody else when fitting new top mounts, remove the top and pack in extra grease?

I always do, have done again today while fitting some to a ford, and I was thinking if its really a good idea or if I'm just giving something extra for all the dirt to stick to, wearing them out faster in the longrun?

what do you think?
Thanks andy
