Had my aircon regassed earlier in the year after pulling the front end apart to replace the radiator. Didnt seem to be that cold after but didnt really mind because it was cold outside anyway. Recently its stopped producing any cold air. It still clicks on under the bonnet but im getting some weird hissing and gurgling sounds inside the dashboard passenger side. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

Or the guy didnt dose it properly to begin with. Didnt feel that cold after he dosed it. Also I got the impression his cannister was running low being winter. Might just get a regass done then and see what happens. I replaced all the o rings in the system when I disturbed them and the pipes are looking reasonable.

Who did it for you? Kwikfit pressure test them for all of about 2 minutes. Not enough to detect a leak. A good AC engineer will properly pressure test it to find leaks!

Find person who won't regass till full system leak test is completed.

Ok. What is the criteria for a leak test? I work with hydraulics and do pressure testing up to 1800 bar sometimes so I know full well even a small leak is bad.

Ive heard that the system should be tested for leaks under vacuum as opposed to pressurization is this true? Also at work I proof test hydraulic systems for ten minutes and normally have a 2% tolerance for pressure drop. How long should this leak test be conducted for?

leak test it your self.

all you need is some half n half water n fairy liquid in a spray bottle

soak the system and look for the bubbles Smile

its usually where stuff gets screwed in (by human) that leak

a vac test will show a leak far more quickly than a pressure test will. you will lose all your vacum from a system in a few seconds far easier than seeing a half a psi loss over half an hour.

however you wont usually be able to generate a vacum in a system with a large leak.
one of my many trades is air con (in shops n warehouses not cars) but leak finding is leak finding

once you know youve got a leak crack out the fairy. fairy liquid is the one for leak finding, and moving 6 tonne of fridge with nothing but butt bouncing power
