Hey ya'll. I'm back, 4th progress blog this year.
I've just sold my s1 16v and replaced it with a Moonstone Gti. What a heap, Gotta love a dishonest seller.. Looked great in the pics but needs a fair bit of work, luckily nothing I can't sort over a weekend.

2001 MoonstoneGti
3previous owners
116k miles
Nearly fsh
Cambelt just done

ENGINE-
Jp4 covers
2"Pugsport
Ecosse enclosed induction kit

SUSPENSION-
lowered front and rear -50mm on Spax springs
Polybushed wishbones and rear beam mounts
recent recond rear beam

BRAKES-
266s off 206 Gti,New pads and discs

EXTERIOR-
Not one Dent
LEDS
Dewipered
Newly refurbished VTS wheels with New yokoSdrives

I drove it home with the most horrid knocking noise and seller claimed he never knew of any noises or issues? p**sed me right off! Ive had a fair few now so I knew it wouldnt be too bad to sort. Annoyingly the excellent 'Gti' gearbox wasn't tight as promised and, well,it's not a Gti box! Gear selector arm has play and the gearing is undoubtedly a VTR one. Which I hate!
Oh and a horrid twin Exit Magnex catback system which I swapped for a Pugsportless than 12hrs of owning it!

The next day I jacked it up, wheels off and gave it all a good wiggle..

Knackered balljoints, rear wishbone mounts, absolutely shagged front ARB mounts AND worn top mount bearings.yay!

It drives very well, comfy, quiet, very very clean and soon with quiet and sharp front end handling!

will do as a roundaround for now until I find something Vtec.

And my old Rallye, missed much!

Yup will be about a month. I I'll just sort any issues and sell it on. It's spot on other than the issues I'm in the middle of fixing and will go quickly on 106owners.

I'm away for a week but then I'll fit a 4-2-1 manifold and have new balljoints fitted. Some proflex front ARB bushes got rid of the big knocks, now just balljoints and top mounts to do.
Got some C5 steels to replace the Vts wheels.

Ha no other addictions that I know of, it's more a boredom thing. And, well, this is like driving a 1.1 Compared to my last car. It's great as a daily but doesn't inspire me to take 'the long way' or go for a spirited drive. So I need something semi silly.

Has this had the cam cover changed? I thought the GTi's had 2 separate cam covers, the ones that generally leak LOL!?

You're right. The standard gti cam covers were swapped for some plastic cam covers from a C2 Vts.
The gti engine is TU5J4, the covers on it now are from a TU5JP4s.
Annoyingly they leak just as bad on most cars, fine on this one luckily.

Below is a pic of the current gti and my old 16v Rallye with normal J4 metal covers, I later swapped them for JP4s as they have are easier to fit an oil catch tank to.

So today boredom made me get productive on the gti.

Engine bay got a mini degrease. I also whipped off the throttle body and gave it a good clean.

Gotta love clutch cleaner. It made cleaning the Icv a doddle. The amount of gunk and oily crap in the induction kit elbow was crazy. Why don't people keep it clean?

Now idles EVEN smoother, no way I can even blag this is cammed haha.

Also took off the Pugsport and polished it even more. No picture I'm afraid, its so shinythat it would blind you all.

I figured I'd identify the gearbox fitted. I'm 99% sure it's either a VTR or 1.5 diesel one but after closer inspection it turns out the code doesn't match ANYTHING. Must be a peugeotsport special jobbieWink

Every forum had someone like me. You'd understand if you drove my old rallye and this back to back. I i need something that's a good mix of silly and daily. I don't feel like the gti is special enough to pour money into.
