Hi,

Iv tried quite a few places and it seems they will only do sizes of 500mm width, yet the 205's front bumper has to have a certain width, ie 460mm so it fits in the recess. They said it wont be legal below 500mm, well excuse me they came with 460mm plates from factory Thumbs down

Does anyone know of a place that will do pressed or standard plates the correct size that's needed at all ?

Cheers

I recently bought a medium standard sized plate. I've 5 characters so legally I can go as small as short standard.

The law states you need a minimum edge of 11mm each end IIRC- I forget now, I looked it all up when I decided on my small one to make sure it was within legal dimensions.

Nope just spoke to Pug and they can only do standard size numberplates 500mm, mine has no I's or 1's and is a 7 digit plate.

This car came with 460mm width plates, so it can only be the law that's changed since the car was made. However this car was made in 92, so it should have plates for that era but people only sell todays legal type plates which is an arse. I don't want a motorbike type plate either as they just don't look right.

    Any more ideas ?

What a game this is, stupid Pug making the bumpers recess 460mm ffs Angry

Just to annoy you more, the type face now used is different to what it was in 1992. The characters are now slightly smaller.

    Try these:
    http://www.demonplates.com/

They do different sizes and model specific sizes but I can't see a 205 (I suppose there rare now), maybe they can do it though.
There top quality, I've bought a good few
    Sets from these now.

As long as your 7 characters leaves 11mm either end when reduced in size to fit the recess you will be fine. I imagine it would be as you only want it 40mm shorter.

Called them, spoke to the one that knows and makes them and they cant do it No

500 mm is the smallest they can make legally, its due to my plate not having any 1's or I's although not sure why he said I's when I don't think plates are allowed to have I's ?? Sad

They were my first option as they have really nice options for edges etc.

I want one like how it was originally, not to screw it on making holes and sticking it on wont work due to the recess bit pushing against the plate etc.

I think ill get the back plate from them just the front I need sorting.

Nope I like my plate, a few other 205's have similar and tbh im not a fan of private ones and they cost far too much, would rather spend that on the car LOL

My car came with a standard sized plate which had been trimmed to fit with the edges rounded.

Shame they didn't go to the same effort when they couldn't decide where to drill the f**king holes LOL

Yeah the hole drilling method is so lazy and careless Yes

These cars had the left hand drive change over from France so im sure slightly changing the bumper to fit UK plates wont take much effort, im guessing they just didn't think about it back then.

I guess I have two options, fill the inside of the recess up with double sided tape so it sticks the standard sized plate on. Or for better rad cooling, fit it on the lower part of the valance which I think should have been its original place, just under the air intake section. Then if needs be file the raised parts down if there is any and plasticare it to look as was.

Most if not all road cars have a decent specific spot for number plates without blocking any air cooling sections etc.

Oh and just for people's info >

(Revision to this section - From the 1st November 2008, the manufacture of 'show plates' became illegal. Before this it was illegal for somebody to use 'show plates' on the UK highway. Now it is illegal for any company to manufacture a number plate which displays a VRM (vehicle registration mark) which does not comply with current legislation.

So using the show plate route isn't available and if people are trimming their plates then they maybe illegal as there needs to be 11mm gap between digits and number plate edge.

Oh and as for the 106 S reg, they have a UK number plate sized recess on the bumper, wish they did this for the 205.

Iv now done a few more checks and if I get a plate 530mm wide, that gives me 3mm on each side at the edges for some sticky tape, while filling up the recess with layers of this 1mm thick tape, so it will be flat against the bumper and stuck on well.

The UK people must be hard of seeing and the cameras being s**te, when in other Europe countries have much smaller plates lol.

    Get some from fancy plates.
They will do them whatever size you ask for, but obviously they wont be fully legal, but if the font is correct and it looks 'right' you'll be fine.

http://www.fancyplates.com/step1.php and select the sizes in step 2
