Quick question,

I have the 330mm setup on my car, however I'm not sure who supplied the kit to start with. Gone to change the rotors today and as you can imagine the bolts were far from desireable having been faced with some pretty serious conditions where they are located.

On ash's kit what size Allen key and socket do you use?

I was using a 3/16 Allen key and 7/16 socket, suggesting to me I'm going to have to get imperial bolts again so that there is no movement through the holes in the bells?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks

They're more than likely 1/4 unf bolts, although a rusted up m6 may undo with a 3/16 Allen key. Best ways obviously to measure the bolt shank with a vernier caliper.

Yeah they are definitely imperial, the whole setup has imperial parts, I suppose wilwood are American, just want to make sure the bolts are a really good fit through the holes in the bells

Take one of the existing ones to your local decent fastenings place and they should be able to sort you out for a quid or so Thumbs up

AP racing do bolt kits, which come with a proper heatproof K-nut type locking nut, again, always imperial sizes for some reason. Buy them in boxes of however many you need per rotor

Thanks guys, just had a look at that Matt, looks good, don't know why I didn't think of that sooner!! Going to pop into a local fastenings place tomorrow and see how I get on.

    No I'm 99% it's not ash's it's been made bespoke I think

Rotor bolts have a special coating on them, would be safer using AP or similar replacement bolts

I doubt they will be that high given the size.

The material properties (i.e. 10.9) are defined by the material, not the size!

Can't say i've ever looked for brake bell bolts, but you can buy 10.9s in lots of small sizes. Smile

Do the old ones not have any markings on the head? Go down your local fasteners place, the guys in Sterling in Peterborough would have just the ticket for instance. I wouldn't waste time looking as they'll tell you the thread size in minutes and probably offer you solutions.

Or, e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-Low-Cap-Head-Socket-Screw-Allen-Bolt-Steel-Grade-10-9-Pks-of-10-20-50-/290784276851 though it's worth questioning the steel origin and that's obviously a metric example. Smile
