Well another year, another MOT fail.

Worse than I was expecting but not too bad:

Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate

Power steering pipe(s) or hose(s) leaking from a seal (2.3.3b )

Nearside Rear Lower Shock absorber insecure (2.7.2b )
Tightened nut - sorted

Offside Rear Lower Shock absorber insecure (2.7.2b )
Bolt is no longer gripping on the slots on the trailing arm - anyone have any ideas to sort this as cant get a socket or spanner on the head of the bolt.

Offside Rear front Sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)

Offside Front wheel bearing rough when rotated (2.5.A.2)
New bearing - sorted.

Nearside Lower ball joint Front suspension retaining device ineffective (2.5.A.4)
Longer bolts installed as nyloc just catching threads.

Offside Front Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Pipe from drivers caliper flexi to next to master cylinder - think its part no. 480345 - can anyone confirm?

Service brake efficiency below requirements (3.7.A.9)

Advisory Notice issued

Nearside Rear Suspension arm has slight play in a pin bearing (2.4.G.2)

Both front to rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Cat and rear silencer Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2)

Oil leak

Play in steering rack inner joint(s)

Busy couple of nights ahead this week.

Yeah corrosion became quite bad after a full winter up and down the salty A9 a few times a week. Tried to wash as much of it off as I could but was always too busy.

Thought about chucking the towel in on it earlier as its worth f**k all now especially with the new dents the missus has put on it!

Jesus!

Mine always fails its MOT but its done 89K in 2 and half years so its understandable!

Had two MOT's in that time, first failed on rear brake caliper seal leaking and this year was on track rod ends and parking brake efficiency!

New pads and discs on the rear saw it pass with 18% efficiency (limit is 16%)

My car seems like an angel next to yours though LOL

Good luck getting it sorted

I must admit, this statement does seem rather accurate. Sad

Get it sorted Thumbs up
On the hand mine past last week with no advisories. Not bad for 113K and seven years of joy. First upgrade in ages treated me well with the Xsara washerjets.

Shuv a chisel type tool to wedge the lower bolt head so you can do the new nut up, old nuts will just come loose again.
Sounds more like a car not been worked on since it got too old. Also sounds like mot man being a bit over the top too.

Although sounds more like a car too dangerous to be on the road.

Would probably agree with you on all of the above. Was under the car every other week when I stayed at my parents but since I became a big boy and got my own place the condition of the car has went downhill.

With regards to the lower shock bolt that's how I got the current one off, was trying to think of an ingenious way to stop this happening, if the bolt had a torx or hex head it would be ideal.

Cheers Thumbs up

Why is the bolt head not being held by the trailing arm? Is the arm damaged?

Very slightly where the head should grip Yes

Can't see it costing anymore than £150 for parts.

Laugh my ass off

I have a feeling, mine is exactly the same, minus the corroded parts, plus engine mounts and no wheels.
