I'm bored of the S2000 and so I'm in the market for a new car. Now I know the S2000 is on the cusp of being a hairdressers car, but I'm worried that the car I'm looking at might start people thinking I'll shortly leave my wife for a fella.

However, I do think it looks nuts, and the reviews its getting are particularly good. Also, the sound on overrun alone makes me want one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVIyLGPCxws) (skip to 40 secs or so)

What's do you think of it? I know that if I like it then I should go for it, but I'm also thinking of the resale given that it might appeal to a limited market. However, the same applies to the Megane R26R, and try to find one of those for sale these days!

It's a fair bit of cash to spend on a mini, or any car for that matter. But this is the only car that currently floats my boat.

Always liked mini's and the look of this one is awesome! I say go for it, just grab a decent test drive first.

If I'm honest I'd stay clear of the sporty mini's. Anything more than a cooper, yes you get the engine but they literally shake themselves to bits.

My misses bought a Cooper S with works tricks and it was awful on the current roads.

You felt like you need to see a chiropractor after popping to the shops.

I won't lie I loved the performance and handling but the practical side just doesn't outway the cons.

We payed 12.5k main dealer, on geeky owner and full history. Within the firat 6 weeks it had been back to the garage twice for suspension bushes, seat brackets that had shaken apart, ignition and dashboard rattling.

It just sent up into a negative omen!

I've heard a lot of similar comments, but I think the main problem lies with the crappy run flats as the sidewalls are just so stiff that the completely spoil the ride.

Luckily the GP comes with sticky Kumho tires, and has no rear seats so they have loads of boot space and thus they are fairly practical.

Get a rotrex fitted to it, it will transform it, you would love it and it's a solid engine

I'm not really into putting money into cars that I'm unlikely to get back (205 excluded as I'm keeping that forever), and I don't thing that fitting a rotrex will get change the things I don't like on the Honda.

My other half bought a 2002 cooper s Jcw last year. Very fun car to drive. And yes a very solid ride. Im forever dodging lumps and bumps in the road as it shakes the car to bits otherwise. We suspect the wheel bearings have failed (3rd time in 2 mini's) And the dash is now vibrating Sad 210bhp is enough power to get you in a lot of trouble with the po-po. Even on average tyres, it corners soo precise. Ive thought about getting one myself but the cost is just too high. The interior is a bit plasticy but all in all, its a car that you wont forget Smile

You say that but they are just like all small cars, they drive ok to be fair, got a few in at work with gearbox issues. Every car has its issues, haters and lovers.

It is definately a case of 'love it or hate it' because me and the woman love the stylish looks of the mini's interior and exterior. Its different, not the same old boring stuff. The newer models are suposed to be a softer ride than the earlier models, probly because they realised the ride was too hard.
At the end of the day, its a lot of money to spend on a car. Make sure you check out what else you can have for that money because you can get a lot more, for a lot less Smile

I think you answered the question yourself - buy an R26.R!

IMO the whine from the Mini sounds s**t, and if your wife whines at home and the car whines away from home it will do your head in.

I've also heard a lot of stories about bad reliability issues with these. There is a thread on Cliosport at the moment where someone is trying to decide between a mini and an R26.R, might be worth a read.

Friends got a Focus RS, what a machine!

Also we have a mini with 17's.....it's a sporty ride on the country roads i'll say that, then again if you're buying a sporty car you're not expecting it to sail over the bumps i suppose.

Nowhere near as smooth as my golf takes them, then again my Golf is a barge Smile

I wouldnt have a focus rs after owning a s2000
I wouldnt have a focus rs when a megane rs265 exists either

Have you thought about a m135i
320hp
3 litre 6 cylinders and two turbos
Rear wheel drive
Four pots
Loads of gadgets
Probably less than the mini at 29k new

The 8 speed auto box is meant to be insane.
It changes pretty damn quick for a single clutch and in 8th you are doing next to no revs at 70

These are canny cars. A mate has one of the older GPs at work, smaller charger pulley and mapped with couple more little bits and bobs. running around 280bhp Cool

Yeah, M135i are epic cars, but look as ugly as sin. I might be tempted by the coupe version though.

I won't be paying 29k, more like 24k, so the bimmer is out of the equation.

The R26R is another awesome car, but just doesn't have the same class as the mini. Plus strapping into 5 point belts each time will be tiresome. The mini also beats it round the track!

This mini has the newer n18 engine, so hopefully won't suffer from tensioner problems, oil usage and coking that the previous mini's had!

Hmm, the looks aren't to everyone's tastes then! lol
