hey guys,

Been saying I was going to change back to standard lights from the angels since October last year and just got round to doing it a few days ago.

From this....

To this...

I love the original lights but the light output is not too clever by today's standards which is why I have been using the angel lamps during the winter months.

Gave it a good wash, polish and wax yesterday as the sun is back for a bit Smile

Changed the 1.2's for my cyclones today as they have brand new PE2's on them and a damn sight faster to clean compared to the TD's! LOL

12 years and counting with this one now and still enjoy the car, although I have been looking around at some DC5's the last few months Whistle

Cheers guys Smile

I prefer the standard lights too and may sell the angels on now.
12 years has been a love/hate thing really LOL
All the usual bits and pieces have been replaced over the years through wear and tear and general maintainance.

Only one major thing and that was a garage many years ago snapped my cambelt while it was in for a belt change so had them sort it out but they never did it right and it tapped after that, so I took it to carl to sort the head and it has been fine ever since Smile

Think the TD's look better than the black cyclones with the standard lights but I will keep them on and get some use out of the tyres for now and might grab another set of cyclones in silver at some point too Smile

I like the colour coding of the strips and I know you don't approve Rikky LOL although I still really like the look of a P1 with the front and rear rub strips and hats off to the guys that back to black half the car after every wash! LOL

Hi Sam, yep wheels still going strong and going to be cleaning them up over the next few nights getting rid of the bits of brake dust build up and tar from roads over the winter.
They are not bad but I want them minty again LOL
Hope the 406 is going well and still surprised you moved on from your lovely 6 mate Sad
I just can't seem to let mine go! LOL

Looking good! The 1.2's in silver do look great but I'm with rikky on the colour coding, the squarer edges of the P1 look a little odd with the smoothness created by the colour coding, but that could just be because of what I'm used to seeing. Standard lights are a massive improvement though! Smile

Looks great, I do like a clean P1.

You could improve the standard light output by putting in some better (whiter, not higher wattage) bulbs. Also a frequent reason why lights on older cars are dim is the wiring to the lights has degraded, corrosion on contacts, earths etc, and the wires weren't overly thick to begin with - the power feed often goes through the headlight switch too, which is a weak point in current flow. You could clean up some earths and plugs or even get a relay kit and take a fused feed from the battery so the headlight switch only carries the switching current to the relay. That would help I reckon.

Can't help feeling the bumpers should go back to standard too (black trim)

I have Philips vision bulbs in there for both main and full beam and they are a nice clean white light from the lights, they just don't project very well. They are good, just not great thats all Smile
The angels have Osram nightbreakers in them and the angels just project the light further up the road.
Both the Philips and Osrams seem to do a good job though Smile

I think it's what you are used to seeing regarding the bumpers and strips really, I got them done years ago so it's normal to me now, but I still like the standard P1 look too Smile

I would have to find some standard front and rear bumpers if I ever wanted to go back as the black strips are part of the bumper and cannot be removed/replaced.

I think it was Anth that had a white phase 1 with coded bumpers too and it looked really good Thumbs up

Cheers for the info Mik Thumbs up
I might look into another feed as the light units are in good condition for their age and not tatty and reflectors are all good so maybe losing a bit of power somewhere Smile

I love it, looks great, thanks for sharing! What are the badges of the doors?

According to the DVLA it is still taxed until december 2013:
https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e1s1
Use the vehicle enquiry function and type in the reg and make.

Thumbs up
