Has anyone changed the passenger side one of these? The drivers side looks like a piece of p**s to change (pull the rubber bellow off, unscrew the arm and reverse procedure...) But even looking at an old rack off the car, I'm struggling to see how the rubber boot on the p/side comes off and goes back on??? The p/steering ram attaches just inboard of where the joint is and it looks like I need to remove the mounting bolt for the ram...

Cheers,

Nick

p.s. I couldn't butcher the old rack to see as it wasn't mine and was still needed!!

the boot is different on the n/s BJ, it has a steel ring bonded into the inner end next to the outer mounting for the PAS ram, lever this off carefully then its exactly the same as doing the other wise.

you dont touch the ram or the inner boot.

Cheers for that. So I'm assuming that the ring is scrap after that so will need a cable tie/jubilee clip to re-attach it?

no, just lever carefully and as long as you don't tear it it'll go back on fine.

So is the ring split where the p/steering ram post sits? When I looked at the rack yesterday, the metal ring has the post going through it, with no visible joins??

Just pop a small flat screwdriver down the edge of the outer boot, lever it carefully towards the outer joint, work around it so you don't stretch it.

the steel part is bonded inside the rubber.

Just finished doing this job and it wasn't too bad at all. I had to remove the wishbone so that I could get some stilsons onto the end of the rod, but other than that, it was plain sailing!! I see what you mean with the rubber boot, I was imagining it to slide over the rack like the other side does, but when it popped off it all made sense!!

Cheers,

Nick
