Hi all,

I've fitted my A048R semi slicks back on today, and with all the extra grip they give, I've run into a bit of an irritating issue, that said, I did have it once or twice on the other wheels.

If I launch pretty hard, I get a clunk from underneath my feet - 1 knock.. that's it. If I then brake really hard, I get 1 knock. If I set of gently, no knock. It's like something is moving forwards and backwards.

Also, if I launch hard, I get a knock, then brake gently with no knock and launch hard again I still have no knock.

I have vibratechnics pbushes, and powerflex front bushes in the wishbones along with nearly new top mounts, vibratechnics engine mounts and a welded up (and substantially stronger!) top engine mount along with brand new track rod ends and rose jointed drop links.

I'll get underneath and have a poke about tomorrow, but what do you reckon? A balljoint starting to go?

Check the top mount for movement i had this on my p1

my track car was like that, was nearside balljoint. thought it was wheelbearing at first. could also jam a chock behind the engine mounting and wedge inbetween the cradle, see if it's moving a bit, but i doubt it's that

I have had the top mounts loose before, but yes checked that and not the problem.

any play in wheel? mine felt like wheelbearing at first but turned out to be balljoint

No play that I can notice... I suspect I'm not strong enough to make it do it's 1 clunk as I have to set off pretty hard or brake like a loon....

Check subframe bolts are tightThumbs up

Also do a tightness check on everything thats been replaced.

Check ARB is central too, mine was not and wishbone used to touch it as it moved up/downWink

i had exact same problem when i fitted my hard poly wishbone bushes, only did it at very low speed

and going from reverse to forward or when very lightly braking. i put my car up on a 4 post ramp

and got someone to drive it - couldnt see anything at all. after a couple of weeks the noise got worse

turned out to be a loose subframe!

I had something similar , it turned out the nut at the top of the strut needed tightened by about 1/8 of a turn

Check the exhaust isnt just catching the subframe. Mine did this. Looked like it should clear but when the engine moved it hit. Worth a look for sure.

Another vote for down pipe hitting subframe. I had the exact same problem, it sounded like the noise was coming from the drivers side and I was thinking it was probably the top mount. Anyway the other day I was sorting my exhaust out as it was on the p**s and I noticed the down pipe was quite close to the subframe. Since I sorted my exhaust I haven't had any more of those horrible clunking noises. Thank god, it was doing my head in

It was the lower arm front bolt needed nipping up

just had this exact issue for the past while. was the lower arm front bolt that needed tightening like OP's problem.

its was quite strange as the noise sounded like it was coming from the driver side near my feet but the loose bolt was the passenger side.

also it seemed tight already but a little more elbow grease and she tightend about a half turn.
the drivers side was tight and didnt move.

noise is gone. happy days
