So here's the dilemma.

I currently run a Peugeot Partner for my plumbing business and the misses has a 5 door diesel focus old shape.

As you can see there the instant issue of no performance so I feel the need to resolve this. The family needs an estate car now due to 2nd on they're way and two dogs to ferry around. (Feel my pain)

So do I buy a near new Octavia Vrs diesel say 13k to get say a equal balance, a bit of performance, diesel so can slip receipts through the books, does the family needs, one insurance, tax, mot etc

Or buy a 307 hdi estate diesel for say 4k which would meet the family needs then buy myself a toy say 4k?

My insurance on the toy will be a killer either way as only had business policy for last 3 years. Had a quote of £1300 on a P1 and civc type R this morning on compare site but might get it down thtough sky etc.

Advice welcome. Ed

Buy the car you need to best suit the family needs and take your bike test and buy a bike. Smile

Don't do bikes, had them before and nearly killee myself then. With all the spoons on the roads these days a bike is not for me. I reckon someone tries to kill me every day as it is and I'm in a van.

In that case then, just do what you said.

Buy something which will do the job for the family 'wagon' and then purchase something small and fun for yourself fairly cheap. Smile

I can't believe how sensible the majority are!

With all your input maybe a 5k budget on a family car then I might save and save and build a z-car mini! Who knows.

Ideas for a family car for 5k. Must be under 80k mileage and diesel.

forget the under 80k thing, that'll just eliminate a vast amount of cars at £5k as people do so many miles these days, and the decent ones still go for more than 5k at 100k.

What will you do about a van?

Ok ditch the mileage.

The van's going nowhere! It's just I need a family solution and/or toy!

Actually buy a decent Octavia vRS mk1 estate with full service history. They'll do over 40mpg and the ones with the electronic diff are very good indeed. Especially with a remap.

You've then not got too much sunk into it as they are £3k for a good one.
