Front end is now back together, suspension, brakes etc done. Glad I did the brakes, shocking state on the drivers side...
Today is rear dampers and maybe the cambelt.

Get it road legal and that'll do for now.

Yeah, when were you thinking? I'm in Skenfrith Sunday, but would have to be done pretty quickly.

It has an MOT and has since done been driven by someone else at double a speed limit.
Slightly quicker to 70 than my coupe, not much in it.

Has paint on the front end now, not good paint, just paint.

Oh and R888s on the cyclones. Worried about brake cooling on the c5 wheels in dry weather after reading Denis' thread.

Now road legal Devil

Been testing the rear beam mounts on a local B road. Seems ok, only oversteers when I provoke it. Forgotten how loud a stripped car is with a magnex on!

They have some wear, car tracks better turning left as you'd expect, turning right means the rear steers more. Only under very hard cornering can you feel it. Could be tyre pressures yet as i've not checked them in two weeks. Goes ok, quicker than I thought when I overtook some cars doing 50.

Now know which wheel the ABS sensor is buggered on too LOL

Imagine a bumper where the paint wasn't attached and fell off in chunks. Now add slightly the wrong colour over with a bit of sanding. Job done.

It's going to be done better, just temporary.

De-aircon today, aux belt replacement was a complete arse. Nothing went right and everything was in solid. Should it really take 5 hours?! Cambelt looks ok but will fund a new one soon. It's age not mileage on this one - 5 years old.

Fans now run with a sensor in the rad and the clocks are working again. My fuse box is nothing like any FAQs so assumed all was fine. Took out clocks and looked at voltages. Then went through all the fuses to find 23 gone.

Brake bleed and maybe the belt to finish for now.

The grille and hockey sticks turned up from a breaker off here (not Jonnie or Ash) and weren't great. Clips all broken and the grille cracked and badly sprayed. Decided to wrap them matt black. Result looks ok, just need to get a decent blaze bonnet with a badge on now.

Will get a few photos sorted on Monday Smile

Just for Spasm_guy...

Before Combe yesterday I had a few things left to do. Early track time meant driving down on the R888s. Not massive fun when its 2 degrees outside and maybe too much damping on the rear. Was interesting a couple of times.

So thursday I drove it over to Bicester to pick up a fibreglass bonnet (it will deffo fit mate) from a spaceframe 306 rally car. It needed a fair bit of 'adjusting' to get it on. The tried to bleed the brakes. First bleed nipple was solid on the front. Gave up when it started to round off - needs a 6 sided 10mm. Joy. Didn't matter as it turned out - brakes were fine on both sessions. Will need to be done though.

Then turned to dropping the oil. Now regular readers (sorry reader...) will know it was bollock-scrapingly low on the front. The tyres were mullering the arch liners. One small clout on the sump meant this happened to the drain plug:

OMFG. Didn't have a spare so chucked on a new washer and truck on. No drips. Happy days for now.

Here is car before it left on saturday - check the colour matching:

Turned out to be very well planted on track. It doesn't have much welly to get past some cars, but doesn't half carry speed well. Very composed if you have to snatch a gear mid-corner too. Ahem.

First session I was only overtaken by a S14 which then held me up as his tyres went south. Took 8 cars though. Second wasn't so great and I got held up a lot more by a prick in a 'track' Ibiza. Wouldn't ceed position even when I was in front by a few feet into Tower. Outbraked him. Had a lot of that tbh, but then it was an action day, so glad to get home in one piece.

Cambelt and brake bleed needed (still).

Good write-up. Red and blaze almost go oddly well together. Or is that because I've been watching too many outlaw Porsche videos featuring cars with different coloured panels? My red car has a temporary blaze bumper on it until I get the other one painted.

Its the best thing to do I think. I've been running track-related cars for the normal road use for a few years, but its hard work after a bit and you can never really do what you want. Also this way if it gets binned its not the end of the world.

Know what you mean Mik, the bonnet will be wrapped sooner or later. Probably hero-spec matt black. With a massive fluoroescent arrow to get people out the way LOL

Nothing much has happened to this over the last few weeks. If anything there has been a catalogue of minor disasters with two shining good things.

1. Cambelt done (by me using a hired proper XU timing kit - did the diesel too!) Smile
2. Hybrid ARB in the rear. It was a pretty badly damaged one poorly installed into a beam Ash recently sold. After a refund, it was sent to me as basically useless. One end had lost 50% height of its teeth and would only just grip on a decent end cap - clunked back and fore. A few hours lost in cleaning, welding and its installed, albeit stuck on one end cap. See if it lasts...

So the beam mounts are a bit shagged. Went to replace them with old ones packed with polyurethane and managed to bugger a brake line. This has lead to snapped caliper bleed nipples and I can't get one mount bolt out (pass front). Tomorrow angle grinder and new bolt will prevail.

Only other thing is i've still got a PAS leak somewhere. Track day on the 21st! Argh! Oh and new job means its being kept for now Big grin
