Cast your mind back a dozen years. The undisputed hot hatch king – the Peugeot 306 GTI-6 – has just deftly oversteered into the great car park in the sky. With a fizzing 167bhp from its naturally aspirated 2.0-litre twin-cam engine and six forward gears, it convincingly held the hot hatch high ground.

Two years later sees the 212bhp Ford Focus RS and the 210bhp Seat Leon Cupra R, and an all-new breed of hyper hot hatch is born, mutating like a freak organism over time into the giant-killers of today; 250bhp has become the minimum requirement in this class.

Hate to admit it but a RS megane with a remap beats a charged '6 in every way except how it feels in corners. Although I am comparing a '6 with KWs to a Megane with 60k old standard suspension.

How it feels is more important than outright grip on the road anyway. You don't win anything for being home 10 seconds faster Big grin

Nice read, i would love to see a comparison of all modern hot hatches (Golf 6 GTI, Megane RS etc in standard form that is) against a well set-up (4 pots, suspension, exhaust) low boost 6. I bet that would b a nice read or watch,

Indeed Big grin.

That's not to say the megane woudl be slower in corners, it is just so light that it doesn't inspire confidence.

For the record ive had a lbsc6 and now own a megane rs250 and i can tell you the rs250 is heavier than the '6, i guess your getting it confused with the older lightweight megane. The rs250 is the coupe released in 2010.

And as for the comparison, the sc6 is quicker than in a straight line and will probably just edge it against a mapped rs too, i think the closer gearing in the '6 makes a big difference.

On handling the rs is better than a 6 Big grin

Yeah, only had it a week.

I like it, it's quicker (lower down power and more torque) and more refined. Just feels a bit light on corners.

Yeah similar to the 250 also has more low down power and torque, but the 6 felt more urgent and brutal under acceleration. Glad you like it
